Capital One is offering $400 bonus when you open a new checking account with promo code BONUS400

To receive the bonus you must make at least 2 direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more to your 360 Checking account within 60 days of account opening

Full Details:

Capital One reserves the right to withdraw this offer, with or without notice, in its sole discretion if it is determined that fraud or any other factor beyond its control is impacting the integrity of the offer and campaign.

Here's the full scoop on how to earn your $400 bonus:
  1. Open a 360 Checking account between 12:00 a.m. ET on November 9, 2020, and 11:59 p.m. ET on January 26, 2021. When you open your account, enter your promotional code—BONUS400.
  2. Receive at least 2 direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more to your 360 Checking account within 60 days of account opening. A qualifying direct deposit is an Automated Clearing House (ACH) credit, which may include payroll, pension or government payments (such as Social Security) by your employer or an outside institution.
  3. This account is subject to approval. This offer cannot be combined with any other 360 Checking account opening offers. Only one promotional code is accepted. Bonus is only valid for one new 360 Checking account.

When will I get my bonus?

Your bonus will be deposited into your new 360 Checking account by the date stated below:

Just opened it. I can see why people missing the bonus code, it's on the external transfer account page instead of the main page. so whether you plan to add a bank account to not just visit the page and make sure the code is auto-populated if not enter/copy-paste manually. you should see a banner on the final page if code is entered. Btw I already have a capital one account so I didn't receive any alert from credit monitoring that inquiry was posted or there was a hard pull. Most of my information was auto-filled and when I clicked next it displayed - doing necessary checks, doing govt mandated checks, and verifying records and finally displayed - good to go. Thanks
Nope. When you click I will fund later, you can still see the code applied and it gives a green tick mark. Also, you can see later pages showing that.

And just to confirm, I had called the CSR after opening the account and they had confirmed that I used the promo code.

An ACH direct deposit is any kind of electronic transfer made from a business or government entity to a consumer. The kinds of payments that fit in this category include direct deposits of:

Paychecks
Employer-Reimbursed Expenses
Government Benefits
Tax Refunds
Annuity Payments
Interest Payments

I'm just curious, if anyone showing the same results. I have received my direct deposit from Paychex, and on my capital one checking, it shows as a "transfer". Is that correct? I thought it should be showing "ACH". On Wells Fargo, it shows as "payroll" assuming it a direct deposit.

Just want to make sure the capital one is classified correctly for this Promo lol.

Mine, and reading through quite a few posts on here and DOC others did as well, showed up as a transfer even though it was my DD from my employer.

Mine shows up as "CompanyLLCDepositPayroll" (exactly like that, no spaces).

Do we have to keep the money in here? I already have my $1000 deposit, but don't have any of my accounts linked to this so need to transfer this to my normal checking account.

It was so much post to search for it... ok I hope capital one classified it as "transfer" is equivalent to "direct deposit" despite it was a "direct deposit".

Mines show as "company name" and then underneath it shows as "transfer" Same thing as when i transferred funds from my WFB to Capital One to open account... it shows as "Wells Fargo Bank NA" and underneath shows as "Transfer"...

This is all from the Mobile App... haven't check how it shows on the desktop version.

On the desktop version... this is what is shown... I'm just confused with how it is classified... since it's not really as "transfer"

I like happy, optimistic scenario. I have been with Cap One since long long time, so I'm not eligible for the bonus; but I would say that if something goes awry with Cap One, it won't be pleasant experience to deal with.

Even if that was the case it wouldn't matter as you'd only pay the extra tax bracket on the amount you're over by so if it puts you into the next tax bracket by $200 and the next bracket is 2% higher (22% vs 24%) you'll only pay an extra $4 in tax.

Either way $400 after tax is still free money so why not? That's like saying I don't want to work overtime since I'll have to pay more tax, or I don't want to work at all since I'll have to pay tax.

Let's say total time invested is 30 min between filling out application, changing direct deposit, and then following up and transferring cash out. So I guess it's not worth it if you make more than $800/hour, even if it takes you 1 hour for the above that's still $400/hour.

I'm pretty sure I entered the BONUS400 promo code when I signed up, but I just called and they told me that they don't see it on my account. They have to put in an exception, but the earliest they can request an exception is Feb 17, 2021 apparently and asked me to call back then.

Called them again and now they said call back on March 31, 2021. Ugh...

Half the reps don't have a clue. I called twice to confirm, and the first rep said they don't see the code applied, and the second said they see it. Just hope for the best.

This is why I took a screen shot of the final page showing your routing/accounting #, below that shows the promo code you used.

Very hard to miss where you enter promo code. Would it still work just by going through OPs link?

What's OPs link? Sorry

Did any of you get your credits from just transferring $1000+ in twice from another institution//bank? If so, when did you get it?

I just called to confirm that the promo was properly applied to my account and I actually got an American rep who automatically transferred me over to another rep in the promotions department.

They confirmed that existing CO logins will have the promo field pre-populated while new accounts may require manual input, and they continued to list the details of the promo. Without me asking, they mentioned that check deposits, transfers from external banks (like your own), and P2P transfers do not qualify. They specifically mentioned paypal, venmo and a third one I didn't catch, but I didn't ask them to repeat it since it does not apply to me as I'm getting legitimate corporation payroll deposits. I don't know why they felt the need to tell me what doesn't qualify, but maybe it's because people have been calling in asking if their "direct deposit" qualifies or not....
