My theory is it may make a big difference if it is a ACH pull from Cap One from another institution or an ACH push from another institution into Cap One in order to qualify for the $400 offer. I think it needs to be the latter. This requires setting up the Cap One checking account as an external account from another institution and pushing funds into Cap One.
When talking to the customer service rep he said, like many others, it doesn't matter what institution or if it is an employer (my daughter is a student and unemployed) it just needs to be an external account. I don't know if this will help the 1000 post discussion at all.
I assume it would have still accepted and applied the promo...
