Would totally buy a Jazzmaster if they offered this deal. Fender, are you listening?

Not really, these days -- covid and inflation and all. I bought the Strat @ 539 a month back and am generally pretty happy with it.

Very true, it definitely almost completely kills any impulse buying... but I would like to know the feeling of wanting a specific guitar... almost any model, of any year... and thinking, I'm going to go order that right now. Then go online and instantly have dozens to choose from... Or even be able to try a few different neck profiles, or nut widths not upside down. I need to make a pilgrimage to one of the all Lefty guitar shops one of these years.

My local guitar shop doesn't stock any lefty's... Unless they get one in on a trade from someone who ordered a new one... But it is understandable, there can't be too many of us. I always wonder the % of the population that plays guitar, then cut that down to the amount of lefty's... It has to be a relatively small number... But I have been decently lucky on finding some pretty nice lefty guitars over the years, so I shouldn't complain.
Do you think we can get a price match for left handed versions?

Call up there, ask for a manager and see if you can email them the link to adorama.
Remind them it's an authorized Fender dealer and they will either tell you it's an exclusive color or they will tell you it's fine and you can pick out any maple neck Player Series Tele.

I am at 50/50 doing that..

I've read that they would return the instruments to Gibson and Fender, rather than blasting them out the door for pennies on the dollar.

So ultimately they might end of at Adorama to be liquidated.
I do not even think they have to bother returning them. Have you been to guitar center recently? The walls are bare. Whoever buys them is just going to keep the online companies going and just shutter the bm stores.

I will call and ask for a lefty version and let you know how it goes. Let us know how your experience goes too

It would cost too much to ship every guitar in inventory back to the manufacturer. They would likely liquidate stock on-hand. They've already listed the used inventory on Musicians Friend, so they could use MF to absorb stock or sell it off. Even when retail stores move locations they'll blow out their inventory rather than incur the cost of moving it. This all assumes GC won't survive chapter 11. Given the history of companies once owned by Bain Capital, there's a good chance they don't.

Has it been reported that the stores aren't profitable? I had heard that they are profitable. The bankruptcy is because of the debt they've been running since the 2008 financial crisis caused a years long decline in sales.

Was getting ready to pull the trigger on a Yamaha Pacifica 611. Now I'm considering this strat. Anyone here played both? Thoughts?

Is this just a chance to let suckers loan GC money to fund golden parachutes for upper level management?
Folks - Guitar Center isn't going anywhere. In fact, they've just had their best 6 month sales revenue since forever. They're flush right now. And that capital allows them to enter into debt restructuring to get their debt down to more reasonable interest rates. Think of it like re-financing a mortgage. They may also negotiate all types of terms with various lenders (such as immediate discount payoffs, etc), hence the bankruptcy umbrella which allows for all the prestidigitation.

A whole lot of people picked up hobbies during covid - and guitar was one of them. The crazy deals were in April, early May. Now, not so much. If anything, you might catch an occasional end-of-model liquidation on one of the Stupid Deals. IMO, in about 6 mos+ there's going to be quite a few good used deals.

I have the Strat in this deal. Got it for $500 last year's deal before they dropped it to $480. I think $520 is a good price. I have fun with it and it was an excellent gateway into guitar for me.

They don't just restructure debt. They CUT operating costs, sell assets and lay people off to lower labor costs.

They are totally different guitars IMO. The Yamaha is a nice instrument, but it has a totally different pickups and neck profile. If you want the chime and quack of a strat, that's what you should be getting.

If Guitar Center can't make money now when everybody is buying low to mid-priced instruments (which matches exactly what they sell), I don't see how they'll make money when the pandemic is over and instrument sales goes back to normal.

Yep. That's basically how it works. Top management always gets paid, success or failure.
