Can someone comment on this vs the pro version? Although the difference in price is quite a bit.
If pro is a significantly better light, then I might go for 400pro coz I technically "don't need" 600ws. But if non-pro is comparable then just as well might go for this, coz why not.

Maybe this article from Fstoppers can answer your question and help you decide but for me it was the recycle time on the high end of 0.9s vs 2.5s. I also remember reading something in DPReview and Fred Miranda forum. fstoppers[fstoppers.com]
Last year's sale for this model cost $10 more and here's a discussion from last year's thread .

Thanks for the article, while it mentions only about color variability and modeling lamp, that recycle time of 2.5s is indeed quite high.
I might as well bite the bullet for 400pro. It just feels like missing out knowing that you can have the 600ws cheaper than the 400 pro right now.

Between this and the 600pro, the difference is a faster recycle (2.5s vs 0.9s for the pro) and brighter modelling light.
The choice between the 400 and 600 is more about how often do you need to overpower the sun in the brightest conditions? As the 400 can struggle whereas the 600 laughs at even the brightest midday Texas sun.
The ad600 recycle times sucks as it can be up to 2.5 seconds before you can shoot again. But if you're shooting non-event photos, then its not that bad at all. I have 2 of these ad600 and they are marvelous. I didn't go with the ad600 pro version since i dont need the TTL feature. $340 is one of the damn best deal i have ever seen for this strobe, much better than Neewer Vision 5 which retails for $400. I recommend it 100%

It's gotta be more than that, no? Maybe for photography?
You realize you have no idea what you are talking about, right?
