So if I'm reading this correctly:

I'm buying a macbook pro Friday.

I can get 16 of these things for 1600 bucks

In return I get 320 bucks worth of gift cards to Target.

I use my discover card and get 5% back on that purchase, so I get 80 bucks back.

Friday, Apple is giving $150 gift cards with the purchase of a Macbook Pro.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Apple gift card promo does not work with the new M1 Macbooks. Excluded.

My plan to upgrade my early-2020 MacBook Air for free*:
  • Buy 10 of these with Discover 5% cashback. effective cost is $950
  • Use gift cards to buy the new MacBook with M1 chip - $970 with education discount after tax
  • $30 Apple GC remainder goes to Apple Music/iCloud that I would have paid anyway
  • $200 Target GC = $190 cash value as I have RedCard
  • Factoring for cashback and money I would have spent anyway, my cost is $730 = $950 - $190 - $30
  • If I sell my prev-gen MacBook Air for $730, it's a wash. I think that's doable, as eBay sale prices are in the mid-$800s

You'd better hope you can sell an Intel Air for that much when a M1 is $899 and way faster, full warranty, much better battery life, new battery, ...

Target app says it is not sold in my store. Should I try going to store or it could be out of stock already. Do they sell physical gift cards at store?

Where do you see that?

The link says: For all things Apple—apps, games, music, iPhone, iPad, AirPods, MacBook, accessories, and more.

I don't see the m1 exclusion?

He's talking about the promo Apple has running direct as part of their Black Friday promos where Apple is giving giftcards/discounts on purchases directly from them.

Totally unrelated to the Target deal. The new M1 Macs are excluded from the promos Apple is running which gives an Apple giftcard to someone who buys an item from them.

I ordered 9 yesterday from target , got 1 within an hour still waiting for the rest.

I'm torn between the m1 air and m1 pro. From what I read there's very little difference performance wise?

Like I said, eBay prices are mid-$800s. Also, not everyone knows about or has access to the education discount, so it's $999 for most people. If I don't net at least $730, it will be very close to that.

But going off of your point, I don't think most people realize yet how big of a deal the M1 Macs are. I agree that Intel models should be going for way less.
