I believe Amazon had this at the same price as well last week. Good for extending storage on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 as long as the games are previous gen.

this is cheaper than the Samsung t7 but seems like the speeds are half on this one being sold at walmart... so technically yeah it is cheaper, but wouldn't be worth it.

The T7 would probably be better for PS5 since it has USB 3.2 2x1 ports (I think?) while the XBox Series X has 3.2 1x1 ports and maxes out at 500MBs. If you are going to use them for cold storage/back compat.
is this better somehow than just buying an m2 drive and a usb enclosure?
I can't see this being significantly better than the 2 crucial 2TB SSDs (CT2000MX500SSD1) and ugreen usbc enclosures I got for my XSX and PS5. Those have been working well for me so far
You can find competing external NVME SSD for around $130 from WD and such. This deal isn't that great. Keep in mind you need Thunderbolt 3 or greater to take advantage of a T7 or any other NVME SSD. So if you have a modern MacBook I recommend getting an NVME.

Speaking from trying this on an Xbox One, don't bother. There are no significant gains in load time on games or the Xbox UI itself.
The PS4 on the other hand was a vast improvement. Highly recommend either going the external route or just purchasing a WD Blue SSD and replacing the internal drive. Was very simple to do.

The T7 is NVME SSD so ~1050 mb/s.
