Personal Note: I think this is the quickest and most fun way to learn an instrument. The app listens to you play and provides real-time feedback (wrong note, came in late). Also, you play along to real music (including drums, vocals) so it's not boring. You get scored on each exercise you complete (think Dance Dance Revolution) so it's easy to see you're actually making progress.

IDEA: Download the app TODAY and try the free version (one week free trial I think), and if you fall in love with it, buy the Black Friday deal (50% off one year premium membership) before it expires December 3rd.

From the Yousician Black Friday Deal Page:
Learn guitar, ukulele, bass, piano, or vocals—or all of them! Get full access to lessons and songs for every instrument.

Enjoy an extensive selection of songs, exercises, and lessons. Updated regularly, there's always something new.

Improve your musical skills even faster! Practice as much as you want without interruptions.

I have never played any instruments, but I am curious about this for a relative who's learning guitar. Has anyone used this product that can give feedback? I'm also looking at Rocksmith. How would these two compare, if at all? Thanks.

I have Rocksmith but never really tried it. The version I have requires a cable to connect to the guitar to the PC, but my acoustic doesn't have a jack. Perhaps there are newer versions of Rocksmith or an app.

I can say the Yousician app is very well made and is super easy. It just works--no hiccups. Easy first time setup and easy near-instant set up each time I want to use it and do a quick lesson.

Best thing to do is to download it and try it out for free.

I've played guitar for years and tried this app to learn piano. The mic on the ipad picks up the sound of the piano and was pretty accurate in recognizing what i was playing. Notes are color coded, which does make it easier to learn, but I wasn't a fan of that since sheet music is not colored and it was really hard for me to try to play off sheet music after using the app. But no question this jumpstarted my ability to play piano which i've tried and failed quite a few times in the past.

Thanks for sharing!

The app does have an option for colored notes or straight black notes. I have been toggling between the two for the very reasons you described.

I purchased this last year for the same price and I love it.. I am 39 years old and have been playing guitar for a little over a year and this app has definitely helped me. It works great with iPad/Android phone, but i prefer the windows application.
They have a free version that lets you play 10 mins a day but you don't get to play the premium songs. It would still be good to let you see if you like it or not though.

Does this work across apps? The piano and the guitar are separate apps and if I purchase this and use the same login it should work on both?
