You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.
It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.
Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.
back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

Just got the shipping confirmation. Also received $10 cb confirmation from the assistant cb site.
1. it will only activate and port-in when you first turn on the phone
There is no step 2 and there's no step 0.
Also, the phone needs to be turned on all the time for T&C to fulfill?
The unlocking process by Cricket seems too confusing after reading all the posts.
There is a method to the madness...
as you said, once you get the new phone, you could use this phone for your old cricket SIM (remember, you won't able to unlock this after 180 days though)

He's been pretty reliable in my experience. Someone else seconded that and it took off !

If anyone needs a good (636) port in number, I have an extra one that expires in 1 month. A $5 Amazon gc would be appreciated to cover my up front cost.
remaining $30 can be used for your second month of service.
I'm hearing no, the system requires ongoing activity of the actual iPhone, which makes the phone $110+tax to start ($50+$60 plan) and then at least another $65 (2 months at $30 + 1 month at $5 with the referral) == $175 total outlay to get unlocked, some of which may not be useful if it's not going to be your actual phone service.
For me wouldn't mind using Cricket for a few months especially since it's still mostly stay at home, etc, but would like to put into my Pixel 4A from Google FI (which is unlocked to start) while I wait for the iPhone to unlock.
