R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

Seemed like a good question. They use the same network and I know you can use iPhones locked to att on cricket.

Yea, you can use cricket SIM cards in att phones but it will not work the other way around.

Does anyone know (perhaps, those who ordered iPhones in previous deals), if the SIM card comes pre-installed? Or does Cricket provide the SIM card separate, where you have to insert it manually?

that auction states 2 hours to 24 hours with possibility of delays up to 48 hours.
So after 12 hours you are upset?
Well if the listing says from 2 hours and even after 12 plus hours if customer doesn't receives any communication or update that obviously going to piss the customer. And going by the logic of 48 hours, they should honestly update the listing with a realistic ETA based on the ongoing demand and not leave a wide open windows justifying hey I said up 48 hours. Then as a customer we will justify giving negative rating and that won't be a good for the business. As a customer I am expecting the seller be honest and if customer is ok to wait that long then they will anyhow will buy, if not will move on to the next listing.

when I did the iPhone 6s and 7 deals, the chip was separate.
For the iPhone 8 deal, I don't remember if it was separate.
But the phones did come ported out already.

Thanks for the info. So the port out completed without even having to turn on the phone? I'm so used to buying a post paid phone, and then the port actually happen after I turn on the phone with a pre-installed SIM card.

a lot of people in the iPhone 8 thread were complaining because cricket had started the port out process even before shipping out the phone.

A few users used those numbers as their main line so they were out of service for a few days.

Cricket gave us a credit ( I believe it was $60) due to the error.

I THINK it's happening again this time. Someone mentioned that they had ported their number already.

It was done in error just for those iPhone 8's -- their regular procedure is to do pending port request when you place the order and the port doesn't finish until you do online activation

My two SE's shipped yesterday (delivery Monday) -- both lines are still working with Xfinity Mobile

Confirmed with Phobio the 3rd party agent that does Apple online trade in for Apple gift cards that the GB size of the device does not effect the trade in value and that the $205 is correct.

Note this is not for apple in store trade ins for a new iPhone or a gift card. Also nothing to do with trade in value at t mobile. Just for those looking to flip these phones. If this is you and you don't care about the cricket account I find the best deal to be get 2 phones at once for the multi line discount of $30 mine came out to $189.90 for two plus $10 for 2 port in numbers offset by $10 CB from R.

Best Buy in store is offering $150 trade in for the 64GB if that works for you.

Just to confirm though - I can use these gift cards to buy an iPhone in the future from apple, correct?
Correct, these are not itunes gift cards that they used to use like 10 years ago. These are apple Giftcards that can be used in the apple store or online at apple but not at third part sellers to buy apple products. So you can't use these at best buy to buy an iPhone.

Apple Online here are the terms : You can use up to 8 Apple Gift Cards. Apple Gift Cards can't be used with Apple Pay, PayPal or split credit card payments.

Another fact that has been reported atleast twice in this thread but also keeps getting misrepresented is that per the terms and conditions for cricket. You MUST "Activate" the phone on the $60 plan to complete the deal. Yes, you can then downgrade it to the $30 plan immediately after, but if you are trading them in you must activate the new iPhone on the plan prior or you will be charged full retail for the phone even if auto pay is turned off. They must bill your payment method used to purchase the deal.
