R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Same here basically there initially was a problem with my current cell provider not releasing my number but got it sorted. Never got a shipping confirmation though but checked with customer service and they said everything looks good to go

All set doesn't always mean all set. 😕

I'm porting in two lines. One from Tello and one from Tracfone (T-Mobile). I received the email stating they needed more info for the second number. I followed the link but it only asked for the PIN. Checked the same link later and it said all set. I chatted with customer service and they said they couldn't make changes so I had to call. Then a ticket had to be created because that guy couldn't make a change either. Customer service called me back an hour later and confirmed they had the account number for the first number also as the second. She was able to make the change to the correct account number. I won't think I'm all set until I see the shipping email.


Update - an hour and 15 minutes after the call I received the shipping email.

When you sign into the new phone with your Apple ID (does not require activation) can be done with Wifi you get a year of Apple TV for free.

after going the rsim unlock route mentioned in the wiki is the phone permanently unlocked or this a temporary patch? And i assume cricked will only unlock after 6 months of *paid* service? So long term use of this phone on another network could be tricky?
