R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

I ordered my phone on Saturday, UPS shows it shipped out yesterday though it's not in system yet, so checked with a Cricket chat rep to see if its arriving today or tomorrow. She said I should 'probably' be getting today, though I have no idea how'd she know that if UPS tracking isn't showing up yet - anyone who's phone shipped this weekend have updated tracking, or received today?

Did you had to sign for the package? Mine is on the way to UPS since yesterday and it says signature required but I won't be at home to sign it.

Also, someone mentioned cricket phones shows as financed. I doubt it is true as they are prepaid, but can you please check that?

Thanks.
I did the previous iphone 7 deal and this one as well. These phones are prepaid so are NOT financed.

For the delivery, I got mine today, the UPS website says, Adult Signature required but they just left it with the leasing office.

For the SIM card, the iPhone is sealed in plastic, there is a separate packet in the box which has the SIM and activation instructions.

Can you confirm it's the A2275 version (which presumably could be activated on any carrier)?

I could use a refer-a friend code (can you confirm it's good for $25 worth a month of service?) for Cricket also, as I plan on using the service. Thanks.

DO NOT use Ting! Just purchased 2 cards yesterday so I could get my daughters a phone for Christmas. Paid $10 each. Website and rep said would work great in my area. Started the process and now I am told "sorry, we do not have service in your area!" Contact chat, was told they just updated the pricing plans last week and have integrated new SIMS!

So mad, now I am out $20!

Phobio email mentioned "256G Verizon". What's the trade in value for this Cricket 64G then?
I called and spoke with Phobio rep and he said that their trade in value is not affected by the GB size that the 256 GB is just a place holder in their system and that the value for the 64 GB is the same $205. Hard to believe but keeping my fingers crossed. Best Buy is offering $150 for the 64 GB so not to far off.

Thanks. It was weird for me to process that prepaid phones are financed. I live at a house without any leasing office so I am not sure how it will work.
let's see how it works out.

Thanks but I am looking someone else to verify your claim of financial restriction on a prepaid phone.

I'm new.
I understand the part about purchasing a number from e-bay. (<$10)
Ordering the phone for $50 with $60 service, then downgrading to $30 service after activation so the $60 will cover 2 months of service. ($110)
Paying the $30 for the next 4 months. ($120)
so about $240 total.
So, if I just do the steps above, I am beating the Costco deal.

But I am totally lost on the referrals and rebates. The rebate site is named rebates, right?
Do I find someone on this thread with a referral link and sign-up through the link and then we both get $25 credit?
Will I get my own referral link after I sign up? Does someone just have to click it for me to get another $25 credit or do they have to click it and sign up?

And how are people getting two phones for the price of 1? I don't need two, but I'd like to understand.

I'm not planning to trade it. I'll keep it but cancel and unlock at 6 months.
