R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

it is letting me order with any number, what if i buy phone with the plan and never port to cricket ?
i still will have my phone which i can use for trade in
will i face any issue ?
Are you saying it isn't checking the port in number as valid? Did your order ship or will it likely get cancelled before shipping?

Raku was mentioned earlier that they give $5 back per line

Bing Rebates gave $10 back per line
Cricket Wireless 11/24/2020 Pending $20.00

Tried CapOne Shopping and they gave $30 back for entire order (not per line)
NOV 27 Cricket Pending $30.00

Now to wait and see if they actually pay out
Is Bing YMMV? I just signed up but don't see Cricket Wireless on the list of deals

Not sure -- shows up under "Phones and Internet" category

I've had Microsoft Rewards/Bing account for long time -- they added Rebates section earlier this year but first time using it on a purchase

I think one of the risks is they have your CC, and can charge you $200 esp if you DO NOT port in your number ever
anyone have any experience regarding the latter - that is if you never ported your #, what happened ?
Good point. Some of the numbers people are using for porting are only good for a few days. Should probably activate and port as soon as possible if anyone is worried about the number expiring.

Won't work. They will place your order on hold and send you email to call them for porting issue. If it worked I know some people would have ordered 100s and become rich overnight.

If you bought from sdcomputers4less and are having an issue with the port, here is what I did:

I went to Boostmobile.com and logged in with phone number and pin. Then I asked the chat people for my account number which is where the error was occurring for me. They gave me my correct account number and I entered it on the cricket site and now it says "All Set" vs "port delayed" or whatever the original message was.

Hope that helps someone and if you need to know about the 45 extra back, PM me

I'm seeing it but clearly this is stated as one of the exclusions "Purchases made with coupon codes"

Which it sure is a problem considering most people here are taking advantage of the $20 off code

The problem for me is ICCID screen is not displaying. Whenever i put in RSIM and my SIM (even the original TW SIM) i get "SIM Not Inserted" or "No SIM" error. Now after inserting and taking out so many times, RSIM broke. One side is completely useless. Other side is useful but still not working. I even tried it in a different iPhone X & iPhone 11 Pro. All of them throws the same error.
I had the same issue, while my iphone is still not unlocked, but at least the sim is getting recognized. What I did was use a ball pen, push against the six chip like sticking points. The design of rsim is flawed that it may not make good contact with the actual sim.
But now my problem becomes the new sim is recognized but ICCID is not showing, sim application is not found, no pop up, reset the phone didn't work. I can't change the ICCID anywhere.

Whoops, thought I would be good with this to replace my wife's iPhone 7 with weak battery, but now we talked about it with the kids and she wants an XR size which is what my boys have. Yes, I guess I could try to jump thru a bunch of hoops to buy two of these in dummy accounts and then use them to trade in for an XR size but I will prolly just go for the $299 upgrade deal, unless there is something better. Maybe will wait till Monday just in case they put up a cyber deal for the XR. I think the $299 thing is ongoing yes?

Already a Cricket customer? If so, the price is $399.

Oh then that isn't much of a deal.

I guess I could do the whole port thing but then it is $359 plus tax so saves a little but not huge. Know of any other deals on the larger size iPhones? (Doesn't have to be XRs)
