R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.
As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.
I bought 2 already. total cost $196 for 2 phones. trade in value of SE at apple is $210

Not sure how your conversation went. I just went to my Ting > My Phone > Port Out > Information

Here are a few important pointers:

1. Your Tello number <Your phone number> must be active at the start of the port out process. Porting out may take a couple of business days depending on the new provider.

2. Once your new provider confirms that the port has been completed, your Tello subscription will automatically be canceled.

3. Here are the things your new provider may request to start the porting process:

Tello account passcode - we do not assign passcodes, but you can provide 0000 or 000000 to complete the process.
Tello account number - you can retrieve it by clicking the button below

I understand that any remaining balances in my Tello account (Plan, PAYG & Tello Dollars) are forfeited immediately and are non-refundable
Thanks again for the info. I was asking for "Ting" but your steps are for "Tello"....

We would hate to see you go, but if you really must then we will do our best to make the process as smooth as possible for you.

Looks like there is a confusion. AquaMx is asking about TING and you are replying about TELLO. Both are different.

@AquaMx, please use the 6 digit pin that the rep gave you. You can see the same under your account if you log back in.
Ported out 4 phones and never had issues.

My counter looks correct. I see 173 days now. Two days ago it is 175.
Did you activate the new phone and sim together? Or use and old phone or existing sim?

This is so complicated. I need a port in number, pm me if you have one. I don't have sprint sim card, so no Tello number.

Guys stop saying there is $40 cash back via ra 10 for this deal. It's a new user referral bonus, not for purchasing cricket wireless phones. Stop these hidden lies just to earn your referral bonus.

Just ordered the iphone se, thanks for your help.

Quick question. When I signed up Ting w/ $30 credit, I choose Flex plan when setting up my Ting account and provided my CC to Ting. Once the number was successful ported out from Ting, do I need to call Ting and cancel my account?

When I go update the account info for my second line, it says:

Transfer Delayed
We are working with your current wireless carrier to confirm your phone number transfer. This can take up to two business days. We will contact you as soon as we have an update.

Anyone has the same issue?

I just placed my order for 2 phones. How can I place another order for the other 2? Just doing a normal checkout process using the same billing and shipping address? TIA.

I did not cancel my account yet as I had close to $90 sign up credits. These will be useful if I have to port in some more numbers to Ting. I gave a prepaid debit card for signing up though. No chance of accidental billing.
Check your Ting account once you have completed the port into cricket/activated on cricket. It will remove your number from ting account and under billing/usage, it should say something like - your current usage is $9 and your $30 credit knocks it down to $0. If you see that and don't see your number listed, you are safe. To be safe, try checking if you can remove your credit card from their system.
