R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

Where online did you put your referral code?
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention here, but you can google online boards where these referral codes are exchanged/allowed. Just be sure to follow their rules in the posts.

Can anyone who has activated with the included sim verify if putting in a cricket sim from another active account pauses the unlock clock?

Cricket's system is having a lot of problems with the unlock clock. Many of us are getting stuck at 179 days even with the sim in the purchased SE all the time . Another sim in the phone will reset the countdown, as the sim is tied to an IMEI for the purpose of unlocking.

Yea, I see that. I've read all posts and there's so much conflicting and unclear information. I'm a current Cricket customer and am trying to figure out how to unlock without having to pay for all 6 months.

1) Activate new phone with new sim and then switch to my current sim for the remaining 6 months? (some have said this doesn't pause the clock, including a post from someone who spoke with Cricket rep)

2) Activate new phone with my current phone's sim and leave it there for 6 months. Activate the new sim account with my current phone and keep active for 2 months for referral credit.

Appreciate any recent first hand experience...thanks!

Is the new SE going to be your primary phone? Is so, just pop current sim in the new phone. Generate referral before you activate. Downgrade $60 plan to 30 plan same day you activate.

Yes, it will be. But I also want to make sure it unlocks so I can sell it as an unlocked phone when I'm done with it.

Can I use the activated Cricket SIM with other unlocked phone?

I have an unlocked iphone X. After receiving new Cricket iphone SE while porting in my existing number (and activate the SIM card with new Cricket iphone SE), would there be a problem if I use activated Cricket SIM (for 2-3 months) with my old iphone X? I'm thinking to trade new Cricket iphone SE for apple gift card (to use as apple music monthly payment)

That works fine. You can use the Cricket SIM in any phone you want. Don't forget about adding a referral if you plan on actually using Cricket so that you'll get $25 for future renewal ($60 unlimited plan downgrade to $30/mo 2gb plan will last 60 days, and after 60 days with referral code you'll get $25 credit, only pay $5 for 3rd month of 2gb/mo data).

Thank you for the answer!

And, I guess it would be okay to downgrade to $40 ($35 with auto-pay) plan, instead of basic $30 plan? I think $30 2gb/month would be too little even for my WFH phone use.

You can downgrade from the unlimited plan to any plan you want to use after you receive and activate the phone and sim card.

So is the phone or SIM card locked to cricket? If I use the cricket sim on another unlocked iphone, will that phone be locked also?
the cricket sim will work on any unlocked phones and most likely, locked AT&T phones..
