R-SIM is a SIM card add-on that looks like a really thin SIM card that mounts on top of your nano sim (or below depending on the model) that allows you to bypass the sim lock by hard coding a new ICCID that is unlocked.

You can buy the R-SIMs off ebay/amazon and they are usually $10 give or take.

It works reasonably well and the wiki talks about how to operate it, the only challenge is sometimes iOS updates break it and sometimes you need a new ICCID but for the most part it's great and allows you to use a SIM locked phone with any provider. and in this case you dont have to wait 180 days with Cricket to get an unlock code.

Keep in mind it is unlike the factory unlocking process which is permanent. Here you are dependent always on the R-SIM.

back in the day it also went by the name Gevey SIM.

As long as you have an old Sprint SIM card laying around (they're reusable)... and an IMEI from a phone that's compatible with Sprint's network, you can sign up for the $5 service (data only) or if you want to play it safe... $6 service (500mb data, 100 min). Pay for service, enter in IMEI and SIM card info, activate. You'll have instant access to a new phone number, pin to access port out info.

was this a 2nd order to same address? I'm trying to determine if "failed" numbers are actually bad port #s or order being cancelled because of orders from same address, or maybe even slightly tweaked.
Yes it was a modified version of address. It's possible that that's why it's failing but in the past, it would just fail at check out screen. Maybe somthing new

I am aware these phones are locked but do these phones work with at&t sims in them? I ask because my locked at&t phone works with cricket sims without unlock.

Since cricket is owned by them I figured I'd ask. Looking on Swappa they only show major carrier phone categories for the SE and unlocked phones as a category to sell.

No they dont. Only works from parent to mvno & not the other way around. Like a tmobile phone will work with metro sim but not vice versa

ATT sim does not work in this.
Unless something has changed recently.

Had order canceled after verifying via chat that the #s were Ok and order was fine. It must be the tweaked address that is the problem(even though it worked a few times already with other variations)
The port #s were from a referral that has been spreading on this thread via PM.

They must be locking things down more. Same thing here, even to an address that only had one phone delivered.

That was my mistake. I meant to say 10-digit phone number
got it, thanks! I thought I submitted invalid port in info as cricket was not able to validate the port information (the 10 digit phone # as account number + the last four digit of the phone # as pin of my redpocket).

Double checked everything, not sure what went wrong. Going to give it another go!

I'm an existing cricket customer looking to purchase this phone as a "new" customer. Can someone please proof my math?

Iphone: $50
Port out #: $7
1st & 2nd month's service due at checkout $60
Referral (existing acct): ($25)
Referral (new acct): ($25)

Total of $67 assuming that I cancel/merge the line on the 59th day prior to the 3rd month of billing. My questions are:
  • Would I be required to continue paying $30/month for month's 3-6, or can I merge/cancel the "new" line as detailed on day 59, and therefore cease incurring additional charges? I know the phone is not eligible for unlocking until after 6 months, but since I don't plan on switching my carrier from cricket, I would think these month 3-6 charges could be avoided.
  • Since I'm an existing customer, can I pop my existing sim into this phone after the activation steps have been completed and use it for my existing line even though I'm incurring the above charges on the "new" line?
Thanks for any and all help.

Can anyone break down for me how to do this deal? I'm sifting through 200+ pages and it's not getting any easier to figure out, lol.

As far as I can tell it's something like this?
Purchase iphone se for 49.99, once I receive phone, downgrade 60/mo plan down to 30/mo plan within 1st day, port a fake number from ebay (unknown cost), some kind of 60 dollar bonus which negates 2 months of service, so it'll end up being 49.99 + 4 months of service @ 30/mo, so roughly 170+tax for an iphone se?
Basically, this is a "port-in your number and get a discounted phone" deal. In other words, if you switch your wireless carrier to Cricket and choose the $60/month plan, they'll sell you the iPhone SE (2nd gen) for $49.99.
  • You need a cell number that isn't currently on the AT&T network (includes ATT post-paid, ATT pre-paid, Cricket, some Tracfone, etc). If you don't have one, you'll have to buy one from somewhere like eBay, people on this thread, etc
  • You end up paying $109.99+tax. That's $49.99 for the phone, $60 for your monthly plan, and taxes.

Everything else is to sweeten the deal.
  • If you wait a few minutes at the checkout page, you'll see a little pop-up that offers you $20 off your order. Or you can find that code in this thread. This takes your cost down to $89.99+taxes.
  • You can get a referral code from someone who's already on Cricket. The way these work is that if you're still with Cricket after 2 months, both you and the referrer get a $25 credit in your Cricket account. If you choose to do this, you must generate the code and use it when you go through the activation process.
  • Downgrading your plan. Since you bought the required $60 plan to get the discounted phone price, you'll automatically be signed up for the $60 plan when you activate the sim card. However, you can downgrade your plan within a day of activation and get the balance as a credit to your account. For example, if you choose to downgrade to the $40 plan, you'll get $20 in your account.
  • If you use a referral code and downgrade to the $30/month plan, you end up being just $5 short of getting 3 months of service with Cricket.
  • You can opt to take advantage of the multi-line discount that Cricket offers, where you can get two $60/month plans for only $90. If you choose to do that, you end up paying $169.98+tax. That's $99.98 for the phone, $90 for the wireless plans, and -$20 for the discount code.]
