These need a solid amp to get the best out of them. These also have the latest headband, which is not only much softer, more comfy but does not rely on rubber tension for clamping power, so it should be much more reliable.

I did. I bought HE6 and my friend loaned me LCD4 along with Chord Dave amp(that how he is insane). My headphone amp is Monolith platinum driving all my power hungry cans. My music amp is Yamaha A-S1200. I spend almost month playing with them and than same did my friend as he was interested in HE6 himself.
Bottom line i sold HE6 after all without any regret.
HE6 is very good sounding cans when driven properly, but they no way in same league as LCD4. Sorry, it is what it is. For that price it's definitely good buy if you already own good amp. Otherwise it will open gate for more spending in order to let the sounds right.

If this is the same as V1 HE6SE, as in same driver etc... then you want to use this with a very powerful headphone amplifier, or preferably directly from a speaker amp of quality. I've used the V1 through a THX 789/887 headphone amp and it didn't sound worth the price. Pair it with a quality class ab amp with 50+ wpc/8ohm and it'll sound great - no guarantee on which amp though as I've compared well regarded top tier 80's Sony AB amp vs 70's 15wpc class A Yamaha and the Yamaha sounded better no comparison. I don't have experience with that amp but most people seem to say it doesn't sound great with these headphones. Take that as you will; I've tried using a $100 no-name chinese AB amp and it sounded just as good as using a balanced smsl su-8 dac / thx 887 stack... which is still not as good as it can sound with the proper pairing.

Personally I think these headphones are only worth it if you're willing to own a dedicated setup for them, usually comprised of a 40lb heat generating speaker amplifier.

I have the v1 of these and was using the emotiva for a while. The amp has enough power for them.

Currently using a stereo amp and they sound a bit better. Onkyo m504. Overkill for sure as I listen at a volume where the meters hit 1w.

When I was in the market for one, all I read was the horror stories about people with the Sundaras, but I couldnt pass up the Sundaras for $275 (no tax) open box directly from hifiman. It has been 3 months and so far so good, I know there is an echo chamber about hifiman with their qc issues but the build quality seems to be equal to my x2hrs.
