My kids love taking pictures of random crap. I'd rather give them a $50 pos that I don't care if they drop it in a river instead of mine or my wife's phone that would easily cost 10x as much to replace.
That's what I was wondering! LoL I have a DSLR that I haven't touched since who knows when. When iPhone cameras started to become decent I guess. Trust me. I know cameras. Nothing beats a good lens. Point and shoot are just as bad as iPhone cameras. Load it on the computer and zoom in. If I did that I would have threw my phone in the toilet.

I didn't even think about using a digital camera as a webcam! I used my phone as a webcam (DroidCam), but that ate thru my battery and made my phone super hot. Additionally, it always disconnected. So I bought a $40 webcam on Amazon, but the colors and quality are trash.
Which camera here would be the best deal for a webcam? Would like one with a rechargable battery.
I was thinking the same thing. Digital cameras are so early 2000s! We've got iPhones and other top smartphone brands that can take photos with the same high quality these days.
Show me a phone with 25x or better OPTICAL zoom. I'll wait...
Seriously who carries a point and shoot these days.
Construction estimating. I take about 70 photos a day. I have a separate HD for these. No sense in paying Apple or Google for storing higher rez photos that I don't want mixed in with personal photos. These are much cheaper than a second mid to flagship phone that serves one purpose.

If you take a lot of pictures, you want to make a lot of camera adjustments, you care about high quality zoom functionality, you need more battery life than your smartphone offers (these cameras allow you to carry around a bunch of extra batteries so you never run out of power), then one of these cameras might make sense for you. That said, the average, casual, picture taker, probably doesn't care about these anymore.

It's rare but definitely needed for some.
For my job I need a point and shoot because I don't want my phone subpoened into court off I take photos of something. I don't have anything to hide but I definitely don't want to turn my phone over for 2-3 days so people can find through it. Just a nuisance that$50 will alleviate
Point and shoot essential to my life. 1,000+ photos a day that needed to be sorted and organized. Sucks to use your phone and have a call/text come in and destroy your flow. Great deal, just picked up the G7 x III and G5 x II, got the G3 x II (great price currently at $499) on the last deal, too bulky for me..but great for a DSLR user that wants a quick point and shoot. G5 X (a lot packed in for the size) has been my workhorse so looking forward to an upgrade. I don't use video, but the G7's have a good history with video streamers. Thank you for the post.
