First, let me start off my saying that I would rather buy a windows laptop. But this is for my son for distance learning. Their whole learning module is Google based so it'll make his life and mine a whole lot easier to transition to another chromebook. My friend who works in IT bought these for his kids and highly recommends this chromebook. My son does a lot of multi tasking for school...running Google meet, Google classroom and other learning sites simultaneously. Our current chromebook can't handle all these going on at once, hence the upgrade.

Thank you for the wonderfully detailed feedback. One quick question, how heavy/bulky is it? This will be for my elderly mother. She has a 13" Asus she lugs around now but it's in dire need of replacing.

If it's for basic use like checking emails and watching Netflix, i might go with this one on sale also at best buy https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-1...Id=6432868 or costco.com will have the hp touchscreen 4 gb memory, 32 gb eMMC intel pentium processor for $299. Not available on their website but it's in their add for cyber Monday.

Yes, I had the Costco deal on my radar too. She does lots of Zoom, watches Youtube cooking shows, and Facebooks. So the Costco deal might just be good enough for her. Too bad we have to wait till Cyber Monday for that deal.

Yeah, I know. Still debating between this one or the costco deal. The costco is online only so there's probably a shipping charge of $10 so price difference of $70.

Do you have a link or screenshot of the Cyber Monday chrome book?
Thanks! Deciding on rolling the dice on that unknown model or getting this one for $379. Backlit Keyboard is mandatory. Wish I knew the model of the Costco one
I've been a Chromebook user and supporter for years. 8 GB of RAM is desirable, but the intel i3 and the Touch Screen fall into the category of "nice to have" features on a Chromebook. I'd be more interested in this if it was $100 less and didn't have the TS or the intel processor.
I have this Chromebook. It is definitely an excellent purchase at this price and has Google updates through 2028. I wish the webcam quality was better but an external webcam is easy enough to buy if desired.
Thanks OP for posting this link! I am looking for mid-range chormebook. it looks like it is 250 nit brightness. I would prefer brighter chromebook for this price.
