Been following this, my wife is a stylist and this is the hair dryer she wants, apparently most professionals use it. 50% off right now with Free Shipping, original price $249.
I've had this blow dryer for at least 5 years. Still works great, dries hair fast and totally worth it in my opinion, especially if you have long, thick hair.
I'm a recently divorced dad with a young daughter with long thick hair. What is so special about the hairdryer compared to the cheaper ones.
I'm not a hair expert, but I've done a bunch of research for my wife and here's what I know:
Ionic: uses negatively charged ions to break down water and dry hair smoother (less frizz) with less heat, reducing damage
Ceramic: uses a ceramic coating on the heating element which produces a more evenly distributed, efficient drying (hair retains shape better)
Tourmaline: uses both ionic and ceramic technologies
Newer hair dryers have brushless motors also (like the Dyson) which put less wear on the dryer, prolonging the life of the dryer.
This Harry Josh blow dryer uses Ionic technology far as I can tell, but the reason my wife needs one is because, A) everyone that uses one says they last for freaking ever, and everyone that uses a Dyson says they break down pretty regularly, and 2) it weights like 1 pound. Even a dryer weighing just a few pounds can be torture for a stylist over long term. Hope this helps!

Amount of heat it can put out (correlates to drying time), levels of heat variation, weight of the unit, energy use, quality of internal parts.
If you're happy with the one you have, no need to change anything. This isn't going to blow your mind.

...but it WILL blow his hair
