Popped up when looking at the Cuisinart bread machine.
I haven't seen the Venu this low.
I sweat too much for a touchscreen, but that display is nice for a Garmin!
I'm still hoping for a killer deal on the 945.

Edit: $249 on Amazon with more color options and faster shipping
Looks like it's a Prime deal, doesn't show up if not signed in.

In 2016 this wrist HR was newish tech, and has much improved across the industry
Better sensors and better chipsets also garmin just purchased the analytics division of firstbeat, a leading company in the heart rate and health data analytics arena.
My garmin watches have always been as good as or better than my apple watches fwiw, measured against a control on prescription medical tech owned by a relative.
Garmin will also get as good as or better battery life compared to the apple watch. And much better fitness data if one is serious about fitness. (My cousin is a serious competition tri-athlete. Most of her sports community uses garmins; the rest of them tend to use suuntos or polars)
However if I were getting another garmin I'd get the no-touch screen. The vivoactive, I think, or one of the forerunners. Or a Fenix if I were willing so spend the bug bucks (or needed topo maps and trackback and all that.)
These are easier to use w sweaty hands or while wearing gloves. And better battery life and better screen for sunlight.
Garmins do not have full smartwatch functionality tho. V limited apps etc.
No "James Bond badguy taking over the universe from a wristwatch" if wearing a garmin.
If you want decent fitness and heart rate info, plus full smartwatch functionality, either the apple watch or some android equivalent is better for that.

The HR sensor on current gen garmins is supposed to be excellent, state of the art for wrist hr.

Thanks for the info and detailed reply. I've already got Garmins for most outdoor stuff, so I'm in the ecosystem already. I was looking for something for non-activity tracking and sleep, possibly to replace my older ForeRunner from 2015. This model doesn't support OWS or advanced cycling metrics so that is a dealbreaker for me.
Maybe a cheaper Vivosmart for sleep once they update the sensor on it...
Venu is same as Vivoactive 4, with AMOLED screen at higher resolution, will put a hit on battery life, but still days better than smartwatches.
Between various smartwatches and Garmin, I had a Bip. Spoiled by the battery life, but the app s_cked and no Strava integration.
Current issue with firmware, battery drains faster if you use a custom watch face. Annoying. Also, the pulse ox is always low. I suppose it may be useful from a relative perspective.
