The S5 is an older model. The S6 Pure is a great vac for those who have a multi level home, or a mix of hard floors and carpets/rugs, and don't want or need sophisticated mopping capabilities.

(By "sophisticated mopping capabilities," I mean an electronic water tank that is controlled by the app, allowing you to create the things like "no mop zones." For those features, but the S5 Max, on sale for about $80 more than this deal.)

If you have only hardwood floors, or only very tight outdoor-style rugs, or only a small 1-level home, then there are cheaper models than this (like the S4 or E4) that may suit your needs.

I have no desire for mopping, but I bought this S6 Pure last time it was at this price because it made it cheaper than the S4 Max. I just never installed the mop. It's been awesome. Highly recommend Roborock.

Got this in the last deal. The setup process was slightly cumbersome. Some things to watch out for:

1. You need to use the Mi Home app. The Roborock app wasn't working (at least for me).
2. Your wifi SSID has to be alphanumeric characters only, and you have to connect to the 2.4GHz band, if your router is dual band. If you have a mesh router, it should auto-connect to the 2.4GHz band.
3. You need to give the app precise location permissions (otherwise it wasn't connecting to wifi successfully).

After the setup though, I'm fairly happy with the performance. The app isn't very polished, but it does its job. The LIDAR is definitely nice though, the mapping is fairly accurate in terms of boundaries, and drawing boundaries in the app is usable. Haven't tried the mopping feature and don't intend to.

The hardwood performance on rtings is much better than the Roomba 960, which made me gravitate towards this one, that and the zone mapping feature.

This is only $5 more than the Roborock S5 a few months ago. This vs S5: This has slightly more suction, a slightly smaller dustbin, slightly larger water tank, same battery but slightly better runtime.

Thinking about getting this since the S5 seems like it may be discontinued and OOS everywhere.

We had an S5 before my girlfriend moved out. It was very impressive at vacuuming. We never used the "mop" since it seems like a crappy version of a swiffer. I have all tile/vinyl tile with two place mats in the bathroom.

I'm also considering the 360 S5 [amazon.com] at$250 right now. Better specs and quite cheaper but maybe not as highly rated.

Which model would say is better for carpet? We have a mix of hardwood and carpet throughout our house. Don't think we would use the mop much

I'd get the S4 Max or The S6 Pure (because the S6 Pure is on sale, and you can just not install the mop, the way I did). Functionally, they are pretty much identical if you ignore the mop.

I would never use one of these mopping features on hardwood floors. They just drag plain water across your floor, which is terrible for hardwood.

Thanks, what about the S4? That has been < $300. Don't need multi-level mapping either.

I remember being super hesitant to get something like this because of how much they cost, but these literally pay for themselves, super useful.

The S4 is a fantastic vac and a great deal. Just be aware that it rides 0.2" closer to the ground. It can handle very low, tight rugs, but cannot handle thick pile, or climb over anything taller than 0.59" So if you have high threshold to cross, or high rugs, or thick rugs, you won't be happy with the S4.

If you are looking to save and have just one level and DON'T need sophisticated mapping capabilities (spot cleaning, room scheduling, no-go zones, invisible walls), then the E4 might be all you need. That's been a cheap as $185. That's a great semi-smart vac that just cleans the whole floor every time. No laser mapping.

Thank you, very helpful. Sounds like the S4 max and S6 pure are the sweet spot.

Two other questions:

1) I noticed the S6 has a camera that allows it to avoid objects in it's path. What is the advantage of this? Don't all these robots have a way to "see" things in their path.

2) We have a sunken living room. If I pick up one of the vacuums with mapping features and place it in the sunken room, how will it map this room? Will it add it to the same floor plan for that floor? Will it create a separate map for the sunken room and treat it like a separate floor?

We've had the S5 for almost a year now. Absolutely love that thing. It's leaps and bounds ahead of the Neato D series it replaced. If you're in the market, this is a great deal.

The amount of deals on these and different types of robovacs is mindnumbing. Anyone have a strong suggestion on any of the current deals (I have no cap on price, just want the right one for my wife / Christmas gift).

2 level home, mix of hardwood and low pile rugs, no need for 'off limit zones', and I would use the mop feature, but it seems like everyone says it just uses water.. The i3 self-emptying been seems like a nice feature, but I don't mind emptying the bin out every few days.

S6 Pure

S5 MAX

others?

Also, does it make more sense to get TWO of the lower tiered robovacs and have them run on their own floors; or just use one for both floors?
