The S5 is an older model. The S6 Pure is a great vac for those who have a multi level home, or a mix of hard floors and carpets/rugs, and don't want or need sophisticated mopping capabilities.

(By "sophisticated mopping capabilities," I mean an electronic water tank that is controlled by the app, allowing you to create the things like "no mop zones." For those features, but the S5 Max, on sale for about $80 more than this deal.)

If you have only hardwood floors, or only very tight outdoor-style rugs, or only a small 1-level home, then there are cheaper models than this (like the S4 or E4) that may suit your needs.

I have no desire for mopping, but I bought this S6 Pure last time it was at this price because it made it cheaper than the S4 Max. I just never installed the mop. It's been awesome. Highly recommend Roborock.

Got this in the last deal. The setup process was slightly cumbersome. Some things to watch out for:

1. You need to use the Mi Home app. The Roborock app wasn't working (at least for me).
2. Your wifi SSID has to be alphanumeric characters only, and you have to connect to the 2.4GHz band, if your router is dual band. If you have a mesh router, it should auto-connect to the 2.4GHz band.
3. You need to give the app precise location permissions (otherwise it wasn't connecting to wifi successfully).

After the setup though, I'm fairly happy with the performance. The app isn't very polished, but it does its job. The LIDAR is definitely nice though, the mapping is fairly accurate in terms of boundaries, and drawing boundaries in the app is usable. Haven't tried the mopping feature and don't intend to.

The hardwood performance on rtings is much better than the Roomba 960, which made me gravitate towards this one, that and the zone mapping feature.

1) I noticed the S6 has a camera that allows it to avoid objects in it's path. What is the advantage of this? Don't all these robots have a way to "see" things in their path.
The camera on the most expensive models adds an extra measure of object-avoidance. It's a new technology that doesn't work perfectly, but If you leave a sock on the ground, or a cord, or cable dangling in the way of the robot, or have a pet that might poop on the floor, the models with the camera do a better job of steering around those things without bumping into them or trying to ride over them. The mid-range models like the S4 Max, S5 Max, and S6 Pure do not have object recognition cameras. They rely on infrared or laser sensors. So if it looks like a wall or a chair leg, they'll navigate around it. But they'll likely try to drive over socks and cords. Personally, I didn't think the camera was worth hundreds of dollars, and I'm not a slob. I don't mind making sure the floor is free of socks and cords. And Roborock technology is pretty good. If the robot gets stuck on something, it lets me know immediately via an app notification.

2) We have a sunken living room. If I pick up one of the vacuums with mapping features and place it in the sunken room, how will it map this room? Will it add it to the same floor plan for that floor? Will it create a separate map for the sunken room and treat it like a separate floor?
Sunken rooms are tricky. Some people get a separate robot, or install a ramp, but with the S4 Max, S5 Max, or S6 Pure, you get multi-level mapping that lets you take advantage of all the cool mapping features without having to buy a separate robot for that level. Decide on a starting point for cleaning that room, place the robot there, and tell it to starting building map of a new floor. If you start from that spot every time, it will do a great job of remembering the map and returning to that spot every time you clean it, as if that was the location of your dock.

If I don't need mopping, which is preferable, this or the S4 Max?
This model is almost identical to the S4 Max, except for the additional mopping capability. Since it's cheaper than the S4 Max right now, you can get this and just don't bother to install the mop. That's what I did. Works great.

Wonderful, thank you for helping me sort through all of the options. Will go for S6 pure or S4 Max.

Can this go over the transition or Lip that connects hard wood flooring to carpeting and vis versa. The Transition piece or Lip is about 1/3" maybe?

Thanks
Yes. No problem. This can climb up to 0.79"

I've heard many mentions of Roborock being better than Irobot, is this actually true, or is it just a better value?
Probably the latter, but the value difference is HUGE. Roborock is one of the tech leaders in this space, but iRobot has now introduced models with similar features (LIDAR navigation, advanced mapping features), but iRobot saves these features for their most expensive price points, as in double or triple the cost of a similar Roborock model.

In terms of reliability, Roomba has a very strong track record. They are repairable, with parts are readily available. Roborock has only been around a couple of years, so we really don't know. But I've placed my bet on Roborock. The replaceable components like brushes, rollers, and filters are very simply and thoughtfully designed, easy to clean, and readily available. The firmware gets updated regularly, and the app keeps being improved with new features.

I wouldn't use the Mi Home app unless you couldn't get the Roborock app to work (which you said was your case). Going forward, Roborock will be focusing on the Roborock app.

Sorry may be dumb question but can we use bona floor cleaner in the water tank and use that for mopping instead?
They say it will clog up the dispenser. But what you can do is lightly spray the floor with a cleaner, or dribble a few drops of Murphy's or Pine Sol on the pad. No problem with that.

If I don't care about mopping, would this be a better deal than the S5 max? What features would I miss out on if I go with this vs the S5 max?

The amount of deals on these and different types of robovacs is mindnumbing. Anyone have a strong suggestion on any of the current deals (I have no cap on price, just want the right one for my wife / Christmas gift).

2 level home, mix of hardwood and low pile rugs, no need for 'off limit zones', and I would use the mop feature, but it seems like everyone says it just uses water.. The i3 self-emptying been seems like a nice feature, but I don't mind emptying the bin out every few days.

S6 Pure

S5 MAX

or Roomba I3+

others?

Also, does it make more sense to get TWO of the lower tiered robovacs and have them run on their own floors; or just use one for both floors?
These are good questions. There is no single answer. Depends on your needs and desires. The only strong recommendation I'll make is not to bother with the mop, because you have hardwood floors. I could see it on tile, but as you noted they just drag water across your floor, and that's not good for hardwood.

IF you want a simple, reliable robot that's going to clean the whole floor every time, than the i3 fits that bill. If you have space to dock one on each floor, and you just want to buy two and set them on auto pilot and clean everywhere once a week, then you'll both be happy with the i3+, or even with a lower priced model like the Roborock E4 that doesn't have laser mapping but does use infrared to clean in a logical pattern.

IF you want the more sophisticated mapping features, then I recommend the Roborock S4 Max (or this S6 Pure deal -- just don't install the mop). I really love the technology. Once it's mapped your house, you can have different schedules for different rooms, and you can do thinks like say "Hey Siri, vacuum the kitchen." and it gets to work. I spilled some powdered sugar this morning and just opened the app and told my Roborock to clean that spot (Didn't have to go get the robot.). It's addictng technology. The multi-floor mapping feature is also excellent, though it is definitely a compromise vs. having robots docked on each floor (Obviously, it can't clean rooms on the "other" floor automatically. You have to carry it there, then tell it what to do, but once there, it can clean rooms selectively etc.).

Some people LOVE the self-emptying bin. I personally don't get it. Instead of emptying a simple dust bin, you're buying bags and emptying bags (albeit much less frequently). Also they advertise that feature as "don't think about vacuuming for a month at a time," but I don't think I'd want to go a month without looking under the vac for things like long hair, strings, twist ties or papers that may have wrapped around the roller or clogged the intake. However, I don't have a house full of pets shedding all over the place and filling up the dustbin daily. I think those are the people who like the self-emptying bin.

As I mentioned earlier, the S4 Max and the S6 Pure are functionally pretty much the same vacuum. The difference is the S6 Pure's basic mopping functions. Since the S4 Max is in short supply and not on sale, you could buy the S6 Pure and just not install the mop.

The electronic water tank of the S5 Max is the difference. If you don't plan to use the mop feature, get this one and save a bit.

I think I'll wait for the S4 Max since I've mostly hardwood floor, some rugs and won't use the mop feature. Thinking of vacuum and then mop manually if needed. It sounds like if mop feature is needed then either S6 Pure (this) or S5 Max
If mopping is needed, and the house has any floor that aren't tile, then the S5 Max is really the only choice. If you don't need the mop, then you could buy this S6 Pure and just not install the mop. That will be functionally identical to the S4 Max, which is brand new and in short supply and has not ever been on sale.

Won't repeat what others have said. I have one for 1000 sq ft 1br apt. Amazing that it picks up a decent amount 3x a week. I'm not a slob. Friend who's a Mom in 3br mostly hardwood floor, multilevel is RAVING about the s6 pure. Mapping is amazing. Neither of us have tried the mopping feature. After much research, Highly recommend this vs. Other major brands especially at this price.
