The S5 is an older model. The S6 Pure is a great vac for those who have a multi level home, or a mix of hard floors and carpets/rugs, and don't want or need sophisticated mopping capabilities.

(By "sophisticated mopping capabilities," I mean an electronic water tank that is controlled by the app, allowing you to create the things like "no mop zones." For those features, but the S5 Max, on sale for about $80 more than this deal.)

If you have only hardwood floors, or only very tight outdoor-style rugs, or only a small 1-level home, then there are cheaper models than this (like the S4 or E4) that may suit your needs.

I have no desire for mopping, but I bought this S6 Pure last time it was at this price because it made it cheaper than the S4 Max. I just never installed the mop. It's been awesome. Highly recommend Roborock.
Got this in the last deal. The setup process was slightly cumbersome. Some things to watch out for:

1. You need to use the Mi Home app. The Roborock app wasn't working (at least for me).
2. Your wifi SSID has to be alphanumeric characters only, and you have to connect to the 2.4GHz band, if your router is dual band. If you have a mesh router, it should auto-connect to the 2.4GHz band.
3. You need to give the app precise location permissions (otherwise it wasn't connecting to wifi successfully).

After the setup though, I'm fairly happy with the performance. The app isn't very polished, but it does its job. The LIDAR is definitely nice though, the mapping is fairly accurate in terms of boundaries, and drawing boundaries in the app is usable. Haven't tried the mopping feature and don't intend to.

The hardwood performance on rtings is much better than the Roomba 960, which made me gravitate towards this one, that and the zone mapping feature.

I purchased the I3 with automatic dustbin but think I should return it for this?
The dustbin was a huge purchase point for me, but if this vacuum is far superior maybe I can sacrifice that feature for a better robot?

Any thoughts?

S4 max is based on the Chinese P5 model which is almost physically identical with the bottom plate "mop connection" removed as the only real change.

S6 pure is the P5 but with a different top plate design for global market. Not sure why they have to rebrand and change things but I guess thats how it goes.

A major benefit of the S4 MAX is that you get 2 filters to interchange and wash during down cycles. S6 pure only includes 1 filter.

I also have a Roomba i3 (Which is basically the i4 with a smaller battery) and I feel like the Roomba is a better cleaner as a trade off. Roborock vacs are good on hard floors, but they're noticeably worse on carpet. Its night and day for my big black rugs..

Thats the only thing I hate about roborock. (And no, mine doesn't have the brush issue where it doesn't spin, its just worse at carpet agitation compared to an "I" series Roomba design).

Edit: Yes the roborock is a significantly faster vacuum, but it rushes the job more so than a Roomba. Literally speed demons across all my floors and misses some fine debris which would otherwise be picked up by a slower vac.

The cons of the Roomba is that a 1hour 20min Roborock job takes literally 3-5 hours to complete on the i3+... But its obviously a better cleaning job on all surface types regardless of the outdated sensory hardware on the Roomba. It moves around slower and picks up WAY more stuff....

Tough choice.
If irobot roomba clean better then it is acceptable it is slow. Faster is no use if it doesn't clean well.

I can attest to Roborock being far superior to Roomba at the same price point. Owned a Roomba for years and while it was great, the mapping technology and app experience of the S6 Pure I bought on Black Friday is amazing. I have a 2,800 sq ft single floor house but with a 1 step drop into half of the house. The S6 Pure treats this as a separate level and it was easy to create a separate map. Now, I just put the Roborock down the step and it can navigate that area as well and know when it's done. I LOVE the room naming in the app bc I have it clean the main areas 2x day due to 3 pets but not go into any bedrooms since the kids often leave stuff on their floors. It amazes me how much it picks up running 2x day - and I even have maid service twice a week! I have hardwoods throughout with a few tiled areas and it handles this wonderfully. The only area I've used the mop function is in a tiled foyer where the dogs go in and out and it helps keep the dirt off but is not a deep scrubbing by any means. I researched the S6 Pure vs others for weeks and sooooo glad I finally jumped in and got it. I did use a credit card that gives me extra 24 month warranty since I have no clue how good the support is for them. I will say it is very easy to pull out the key parts for replacement and cleaning as well.

Citi Card - no annual fee either. I've had it for years and use it for any purchases where I need the extra 24 month warranty. You can even buy extended warranty through another company and receive up to 7 year coverage with the 24 month Citi extension. I've had 2 claims in past and both refunded my original purchase price since the replacement was higher cost due to buying items on a deal.

Citi removed most of their perks Sept 2019 sadly, including the extended warranty, from many cards. Such a bummer. Our double cash had it removed Frown If your card still has it - which is it so we can consider? When I looked into it, only a few select cards kept it and none were no fee. This was such a great benefit.
