Note, a new Fi customer is somebody who is new to Google Fi on either a new plan or a new member as a part of an existing group plan.

TO qualify for the $500 discount:
  • Activate the Samsung Note20 on a full service plan (data-only SIMs do not qualify) within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email and remain active on Google Fi for 90 consecutive days.
  • You must also bring/transfer your number to Fi within 30 days of the shipment confirmation email. Fi-to-Fi number transfers are not eligible.

Thanks OP! Just ordered the Note 20 5G for $499 + tax, trading in my Note 9 for $425. Super good deal, even factoring in 3 months of service. I'd prefer not to have to keep the SIM in the Note 20 but if I have to, that's fine. I was just thinking of selling my Note 9 (not using it now) but was hoping for a good trade in deal instead.

My iPhone SE 2020 from Cricket ($49.99 deal) is coming today.. Black Friday this year has been good for phone deals!

Careful/I've rechecked with google rep/chat and been told I have to use google FI sim in the purchased phone for 90 days to receive the credit.
Sadly means cant get this deal even though I actually have use for a google Fi line for 3 months, but I'd need to use note20 on my main number which is with T-mo

The part that sucks is you're stuck using your new note with fi for 3 months and if u turn ur data on it could be pricey. That's what killed the deal for me

you can hold onto the phone for 90 days and switch it after that. lot of people are gonna be doing that. worth the discount and hassle.

I'm porting over a Tello line with little to no data anyway, so as a secondary # I'm okay turning data off completely. If it's your main phone line I can see where the monthly cost for service going up w/ data use can sour the deal a bit.

Nope, I'm paying in full so it's an up front $500 discount + $425 credit card refund once the trade in is processed. It's clearly spelled out during check out.

I think they are just telling you that you need to keep the fi sim in the new phone but in reality, it shouldn't matter because the service is active on the sim sent with the phone and why would they care what phone you use the sim in as long as the service us active. You should be able to swap the sim at will with the other devices you own. What if something happens to the new phone and you need to swap sims to a new device to use the service? Perhaps you drop and shatter it rendering it useless. Well that sucks for you but you need to be able to swap phones to use service. Think logically. It also doesn't state in the terns that the sim must remain the the phone you purchased, just that the service be active.

Carriers won't price match, and stores don't have the ability to edit a price on a phone. You can try bargaining with customer care for a discount if you've been with them for a while and aren't a credit abuser. Personally I don't think it's worth the time but you can always try. You'd basically pay full price for the phone and receive a credit as a one time courtesy.

My understanding is that fi phones aren't locked.
