I bought the 512GB 950 Pro years ago for a little under $300

The bigger poopy part of it is that these "super fast" devices aren't really very impressive in real world activities. You're shaving seconds off of computing time daily with them.

Bought the WD Black a week ago for a few dollars more but haven't installed yet; feels like this might be worth a return?

If I'm people, I would wait for WD black to drop again. It can easily be had at $110-120 1tb. Alot better ssd than this 970. If it was 970 plus, then I say buy it.

still not bad as paying $100 for Samsung 120gb SSD back in 2013 LMAO

Thing still has 46% health left with 40k hours according to Crystaldiskinfo.

Can you use this in a MacBook Air with an adaptor. I have run out of space. Any recommendations?
You can replace your Macbook Air SSD if it's 2013-2017. Anything 2018 or later, you won't be able to since the SSD is soldered I believe. I recently replaced my 2015 Macbook Air with a WD Blue NVMe SSD and it's working great.

Here's the guide I used:

The Hynix P31 is on sale for cheaper and looks by all accounts to be the better drive.
Real world test doesnt show that.

You won't notice a difference in use just in benchmarks, but in the end its up to you if you want it. LTT has a funny video about ssd vs nvme vs something. Worth a watch.

I said it in a different post. Linus Tech Tips did a real world blind test with like 3 people with similar systems where the difference was SSD SATA vs PCI-E vs NVME and all three picked SATA as fastest or something. Either way, conclusion was it was hair splitting no matter what and if it wasn't a side by side, it would have been impossible to tell the difference without comparing benchmarks.

Is 970 EVO Plus better than EVO? Thought I remember reading EVO was better without the plus moniker?

Yeah. I didn't see a difference except when processing video files. When it can focus on a single monstrous file, it's quicker.
