So this "enhancement" will work with any headphones?
Yes any headset works. Only a certain number of games use it thoguh.

I really want to know how this compares with the PS5's 3D audio through headphones.

I mean that to think you're going to get Dolby Atmos through a headset is laughable. The thing that differentiates Dolby Atmos from run of the mil surround sound are height speakers (above your head). You're not getting surround sound thru a headset...and you certainly aren't getting Dolby Atmos.
Can you believe these plebs still use their (headphone surrounded) ears to listen? I switched to exclusively using my scalp to listen years ago when I first got Atmos. Really helps you hear things that go over your head.

I bought this when it was on sale about a year ago because I like playing around with headphones and surround audio with my games.

I think it works well enough and I do notice a slight difference between this and Windows Sonic on both my Xbox One X and my PC. I played Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Resident Evil 2 Remake as they are Atmos supported games on Windows 10. $10 was fine for a lifetime license, unless you're a real audiophile you don't need this. I only consider myself a casual.

I haven't tried DTS Sound Unbound yet so I can't compare.

For what it's worth I use a pair of LucidSound LS31 headphones to game with on all my consoles and PC. They are stereo without any of the fancy 7.1 processing effects that I've always found to make things sounds worse in games.

All that being said, the absolute BEST audio I've ever experienced in a game was playing the Last of Us 2 on my PS4 with the same headphones. It was just using the Stereo headphone setting of the PS4. In the end it really comes down to the in-game audio design and your brain being the ultimate sound processor

So, if I have a 5.1.2 sound system with a receiver already capable of decoding Dolby Atmos and with the Xbox connected to the receiver, would this allow me to play games with Dolby Atmos enabled? Or is this supposed to be for Atmos absent systems?

You can already use Dolby Atmos for a home theater system for free...just enable it in the XBOX settings.

This paid app just enables Atmos for headphones

Will I need something like this if say I wanted to use my AirPods Pro for pc gaming? My AirPod pro have spatial audio but I think the setting only works for iPhone. But this Dolby app will allow me to use it for pc too right?

You do not need to buy this for your setup to work. Instead attempt to enable it in the Xbox audio settings, and it will prompt you to first install the Dolby app in order to enable it. The app will try to sell you on this very same headphones deal, but you can skip past that. As far as I know, Atmos is not an option without first installing the (free) Dolby app. That goes for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

Do you know if you can use it on different computer/devices if they're under a different login. For example, my xbox account and my computers windows account have different emails associated with them.
I bought this with my personal microsoft account on Xbox, but got rejected when trying to login to the Dolby app on my work PC. The app comes from the microsoft app store and is locked to the MS account you use in the store (no separate username option), so in my case was tied to my work MS account. It seemed clear that it would have worked if I had used the same personal account.

I'm surprised they're charging money for this. If they want their standard to be adopted by all, they should provide software for free to get their tech adopted — and charge the content designers for a license.

I have DT-770 Pro headphones that are connected my PC through an AMP, so already a good setup. Just tried the trial and can't hear much difference. Feels like some basic EQ mod.

After moving to my series x this app no longer works for me. I go into my xbox settings to turn dolby on and it directs me to the store where it tells me to install the app I already have installed. The app just sends me back to my xbox settings and I'm stuck in a loop. Others have been having this issue too.
