If you don't care about the Operating System, here's the breakdown:

SE is better at:
- pure performance and speed (underclocked A12)
- gaming (so smooth)
- 5 years of updates
- video quality (no contest)
- durability (IP rated water resistant)
- resale value (again, no contest)
- ergonomics if you have smaller hands (or if you don't like pocket bulges)

4a is better at:
- battery life (by a HUGE margin)
- screen clarity and size (easier to type)
- still image quality (has Night Mode)
- built-in call screening (so good at blocking Spam)
- AI features if you use them (I don't)
- ability to side-load apps like YouTube Vanced (no ads)

I have a 3a and an SE, and I use the SE as an iPod Touch and the 3a as a daily driver. I'm OS-Agnostic.

Biggest sleeper phone ever. It's amazingly fast (same chip as the iPhone 11 Pro Max), looks like your Grandpa's iPhone 7, and is cheap as hell so less heartbreak if you lose it or drop it. Battery life is mediocre is the main downside, I actually prefer LCD screens to OLED at low brightness but YMMV.

There is no other phone that will last you 5 years at $339.

This is available on cricket right now for 49$ and 60$ service with a mobile number port. You can downgrade the service cost to 30$ pm immediately after activating the phone on cricket. Use it for 6 months and get it unlocked.
So total goes for :
49$ + 60$ + 30 x 4 more months of service totaling = 230$
One can also get $25 additional referral bonus.

I got this from costco when it was 369 and got a price adjustment. Its a good phone with a13 but poor battery life.
I did the same. Good little phone. Uses all the 6-8 accessories. Has Qi charging and is wicked fast compared to older models. Here is Costco price matching link

I'm having a tough time deciding whether to get the iPhone se or the pixel 4a.
If you can deal with mediocre battery life and an LCD over OLED, this is a great phone. I've been an Android user my entire life and this is my first Apple phone, no regrets. Very fast and I love the small form factor. Android phones have gotten WAY too large.

for anyone who has this phone how is the battery life?
Battery life is totally fine. People forget that a smaller screen also means that less energy is used. It totally gets me through the day without a problem. I absolutely adore this phone and I refused to upgrade past my 6S until there was a good option for a phone this size. It's the same processor as the iPhone 11, so it's modern and will last for years. Also, I love Touch ID compared to Face ID and that has been amazing in a masked world these days. I don't feel like I'm missing anything from the more expensive phones since it's nearly up to their specs in most ways and the smaller screen is an advantage for me. $300 savings compared to the next iPhone makes it even better.

I just upgraded from the SE 2020 (12 Pro 256GB).

I loved this mfer. Yes the battery sucks. But...that's assuming your using it non-stop. If your on wifi. You will get all day use no problem. Turn down brightness. Low power mode. Turn off background app refresh. Facebook apps kill the battery.

I would get this for a child, grand parent, or if you just jumped ship from Android.

It can record up to 4K at 60fps, suffice to say; the camera is freaking amazing.

It's stupid quick. The best part about this phone. The processor on board was, until recently, the best one out there.

Screen is excellent for the price and size...yah it's small for most of us....but perfect for those who don't need worry about "size".

Apple care+ is under $200 and if anything happens. $75 for a replacement phone is a steal.

Thoughtful list!

I'd also add:
  • Siri vs. Google Assistant
  • Android Live Transcribe is great for lectures and such
  • iOS has iMessage

Will this work on Sprint? I know they were bought by T-Mobile so not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks.

That's depressing. I've had my iphone SE in an unopened box since the March deal. Battery life is the most important thing to me. I'm still using my iphone 6 that I replaced the battery in 2 years ago and wanted to get my money's worth out of it. Speed wise it's okay. I use it fine.

The March deal was great though. $200 plus activation fee when the phone had just come out, it was basically a pre-order. Still haven't seen a better deal 7 months later.

Pricey but worth it. Got this in March with free upgrades and just upgraded again today to a mini as my daily driver but for the first time going to keep this one as a backup.

No complaints, love the size, battery is sufficient to last from morning to dinner time even with frequent use, fast charging helps charge it quick since it has a smaller battery, lcd screen is very very good, no one will complain about performance at least not for 2-3 years from now, and the last one no one is talking about... the screen hardness!

Iphone 11 and iphone 12 have softer more durable screens but more scratch prone, my mini is getting a screen protector right out of the box but these older bodies had much more durable screens. Never had protectors on my 4,5,6,7,8 phones and the glass is still clean after many years.

Might finally pull the trigger on this. I need a new phone. Still on the 6. I just can't normally justify spending so much on a phone and not the person that constantly needs to upgrade.

Plus i have an ipad pro for the rest of what I want to do (work buys that one).

I've been waiting for some kind of a discount. Just anything. and I don't like getting locked in on contracts or payments.
