I bought one last week (has not shipped yet, but it being back on sale again gives me hope), so of course I've been using my Google-Fu to research this thing while trying to decide if I want to cancel or not. I usually build my own, but the prices on prebuilds these days are just too good to pass up.

The main complaints I've heard about this rig are:

-Poor thermals/airflow, leading to loud/overworked case fans (so you probably want to add a couple of extra case fans of your own)
-Only one PCI-E slot, and it's taken by the GPU (in my case, it means I have to give up my sound card)
-RAM is difficult to upgrade--most non-HP ram will default clock to 2666 (supposedly this can be worked around by using Intel XTU to manually set RAM clocks, otherwise you have to overpay for HP RAM)
-Locked BIOS (so no proper BIOS overclocking, you are limited to HP's software overclocks and fan controls, which are not great--I would not expect big/stable overclocks on this rig)

These are significant complaints, but certainly not deal breakers for most users. I plan to add my own fans, and I won't be trying to break any overclocking records. This HP is a few hundred bucks cheaper than any comparable deal right now, and most of the components are actually really high quality (750W 80+ Platinum Cooler Master PSU, 3-fan GPU, WD Black SSD, and HyperX 3200 memory). They just cheaped out on a tiny motherboard and have a stingy BIOS policy that hamstrings the "k" in the 10700k. You wouldn't really expect tremendous performance gains from overclocking a 10700k to begin with, and it will still utterly demolish anything you throw at it, but it's still annoying.

If anything on the list above is a deal breaker, then you just have to wing it on the slim chance that someone like Cyberpower gets close to this price on one of their BF pre-builds (they had a 5600X/3080 system for ~$1600, and a 10900k/3080 build for ~$1900), but either way this HP Omen is a hell of a price for the components. Even if you could find all the cheapest parts in stock and fudged your Windows license, you still could not build this for cheaper on your own.
Well I don't know how likely this bad boy is to ship, but I totally jumped on this deal. There's the PayPal chase 5% option too.
One of the cash back sites is up to 12% today too.

edit: I'd also recommend upgrading to wifi 6 option for $10 more.
The interesting thing about these "deals" is that it's only a deal because Nvidia and their partners are allocating RTX 3080 supply to OEMs. This is no better than Gamestop selling you an overpriced Xbox or PS5 "bundle" with all the accessories/games clocking in at MSRP.

If you need a 3080 right NOW, I guess this is the only way you're getting it even close to retail.

No need to reinstall. Just use the "fresh start" option in Windows 10: https://www.howtogeek.com/265054/...tware/amp/
Good tip... I wasn't sure if that would've wiped out HP's bloatware cause I assumed it would just reinstall everything from the recovery partition, but good to know for the future.

For those who received their PC already, can you post when yours were ordered, when the order status changed to order assembly, then to ship/received?

My order was confirmed on 11/25, 2:06 pm, EST. The revised delivery date shows 1/7/21 atm.

After complaining and demanding an update I received this response:

Dear John,
Thank you for the contacting HP.com Store.
My apologies for our delayed email response. Due to a spike in our holiday volumes, it took us a little longer than usual to respond.
We here at hp.com are unfortunately experiencing order delays on some of our custom built systems due to extremely high worldwide demand for particular components. The component constraints are industry wide and are not limited to HP. Our management team is reviewing this on a daily basis. We certainly understand (and share!) your frustration – and are working hard to get this ship to you. The revised estimated ship date is 1/11/2021.
We have issued you $50 compensation for the delay which we hope will please you. We do want to thank you for your continued support and value your loyalty to HP. Once again, I apologize for this delay. You will not be disappointed in your OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-0380t (2H4A2AV_1) once it is delivered.

We would appreciate your time in taking our Email survey. Please click on the link below in the next five days. We value your feedback to help us serve you better.
Thank you for choosing HP. We appreciate your business.
Kind regards,

Since no one replied to my inquiry, I'll add my own update. Just checked, and it's showing order assembled and shipping on 1/10. FedEx tracking number was provided. It's moving, so hang in there.

My order was just delayed to January 15th after originally being scheduled for Jan 7th delivery date. I didn't get an email or anything, they just were super shady about it and changed it to the 15th under order status.

For anyone want to upgrade the ram, here is how I add an extra 32GB memory to existing 16GB system.

The ram I purchased is HyperX Fury RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 CL18 DIMM Single Stick HX436C18FB3A/32
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CXYWXMK

I originally tried to follow below post about how to install the intel XTU program to turn the memory clock. But the current intel version (7.0.1.4) didn't show the memory section so there is no way to change parameter for memory.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gam...-p/7728366

Additional research give me some useful info and I have managed to download old version 6.5.2.38. Once I install the old version and open the exe, I was able to see the memory section from the opened program.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gam...-p/7886682

My suggestion is google "Intel XTU Component Device 6.5.2.38" and the first link is where I get the old version. When you click the setup make sure it's said 6.5.2.38 otherwise you need download the correct version again.

Once the XTU was setup correctly, all I did is click "customized" on memory section and notice the clock change from 2400 to 3200mhz. Then click apply and restart your pc. Hope this helps and enjoying.

I received a shipping email stating 1/10.
Tracking number shows nothing on FedEx.
Shipping still showing 2-10 days even though I was told my shipping was upgrades.

Emailed the gal from my exec email. Asking for to check into it.
I suspect they are making tracking numbers to satisfy people even though it won't ship for another week.

Unbelievable...if I read about the Omen RAM issues before I placed the order, I would have just paid the $120 or so to go from 16 to 32GB. Of course, I first heard about it two hours after I ordered, which was too late to modify my order. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the machine 1 1/2 months later. I can't even find the RAM on HP's parts site, using their own part numbers for the 8GB and 16GB sticks (just out of sheer curiosity to see how much they rip you off). First and last time I order from HP.

I think in most cases, 16GB is more than enough, unless to play 3A games while streaming on multiple platforms and with many chrome tab opens. Given the current NVME offers fast speeds, there is less requirement for a ramdisk .. my 2 cents.

Thanks...I'll be running games on it half the time, and a very big Lightroom catalog with Photoshop the other half. I'll try seeing how much the 16GB RAM gets taxed before deciding if I need to go 32.
