I think the Red are SMR and the Red Plus are CMR.

It matters more for data being frequently written than it does for data at rest, so yes. For a very short explanation of the differences, see here: https://blag.nullteilerfrei.de/20...-a-hdd-mr/

The listing text above explains it pretty well and should be accurate.

It's CMR, it's in the title of the product and in specs

Does any of this CMR SMR matter for a single unit in a desktop?

Newegg has 4TB WD RED for $79.99, but it's advertised as SMR. May be different part number?

Edit: WD40EFAX is SMR. WD40EFRX is not. Source: https://www.extremetech.com/compu...-customers

WD site had better prices yesterday than today. I saw red pro 6tb for $135 yesterday and didn't pull the trigger. Today it changed to $160 as example.

Knowing the Plus vs. Pro mainly deals with 5400 RPM vs 7200 RPM, is there that much of a difference between the two if I am mainly going to be using for PLEX?

Should I wait for a 7200 rpm drive or is this good enough?
