At the very least, the mask should have a "meltblown" layer (not just "non-woven").
These Level 2 masks look good, though I haven't tried them myself. Made in the US too: Armbrust[armbrustusa.com]
TLDR: these don't look very effective.
N95 > KN94 or KF95 on FDA list[fda.gov] > real ASTM[astm.org] surgical mask > everything else (better than nothing)

Thanks for the writeup. Based on the number of these cloth masks I see out in the general public, more people need to see this.

May I know how we can reuse these N95 masks ? After grocery stores trips and doctor"s visit. Thanks
I've purchased a few of these one at a time at gas stations for $5 each.. Yes they are cute and definitely in the "better than nothing " range.. But still nice
They aren't for your protection, they are to protect your community in case you're infected. But cool, cool, snide remarks at people who are trying to help are very useful. If you don't want to buy masks, not sure why you need to feel the need to throw shade at people who are doing their best to be good members of their community.

There are much better alternative available. Here's a few good sources for respirators:
- Powercom KN95 [bonafidemasks.com]
- TIA BOTN [behealthyusa.net]
- Dr. Puri (blue only) [behealthyusa.net]
For surgical masks (the real ones at least) it's difficult to find a reliable vendor that sells to the general public.- Manufacturers such as Halyard (Kimberly Clark) and Cardinal are well known.
- Insist on ASTM certification [astm.org]. Here's a good explanation [crosstex.com]. (The quality of this brand is unknown, but the info is good).
