If you are going for 256GB version then probably better idea to get the Optane one. Unlike the higher end models like ENVY or SPECTRE, which use TLC based NVMe SSD with DRAM Cache, the budget series normally uses QLC SSD without DRAM caching and they are slower. In that case getting the Optane memory which is called Intel H10 NVMe SSD, may be a better idea.
Yes, both are upgradable. You can upgrade both the Ram slots and go up to 64GB (32GB x 2) which is the max supported by Intel Tiger Lake 11th Gen CPUs.
That is not Pavilion series. That laptop belongs to the HP's most budget series and does not have any name. HP called them HP 15 or HP 17 or HP 14, based on the screen size. Now since that has a more powerful processor, CPU performance will be slightly better and the Graphics performance will be around 10% better.
However build quality is superior on this and the 400 nits display option on this deal is far better than the 250 nits display on that Laptop.

Also, this is probably the cheapest way to get the 400 nits Panel. The Panel is not only brighter but also has far superior color gamut, 99% sRGB vs 58% on the 250 nits Panel.

I am in for one.

Of note: I selected the fully refundable (if never used) 3-year with accidental damage warranty coverage for $89.99. No brainer for me (my DW, whom this will be for, has the Midas touch with tech).
Thank you, OP.

Oh. Ok. Thanks. I don't see value in skimping on the screen, but to each his / her own.

Notice that you can choose the configuration for either. So it is upgrade-ready.
That's not necessarily true. It could be two different soldered RAM models. Best not to assume is being able to upgrade matters to you.

Good point. I do not see any YT upgrade vids on this model yet. For me 16GB is decent enough. The HD should be upgradable, as they are not soldered in AFAIK on any laptop.
