My experience with backlit keyboards is they wash out on white or silver laptops due to the screen reflecting off of the keys. Opt for the Fog Blue to minimize.
Add TOUCH, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD -- The configuration comes to 609, Apply coupon SMBHOL10 to bring down the total to $548.

Coupon SMBHOL10 works for $599 or more.

Paypal Chase offer gives 5% cashback too !!
Wow $400 for Ryzen 7 4700U + FHD screen + WiFi 6 (just $10 for the WiFi upgrade, so why not futureproof it), it's gotta be one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest ever for that combo.

A pretty futureproof buy, and I think the RAM and SSD are replaceable so if you need to do it now, or in the future, it's a perfect base to start with.

a strange problem:
machine 1, newly installed windows 10
when using the power supply (either original charger or usb-c charger), there is a static sound when you touch the touchpad, no such sound if you don't touch or on battery

machine 2, Linux Mint
no such sound whether on power supply or battery

Can the USB-C port on the left be used for charging the laptop? I thought it is used to charge cellphones(that is, output not input). If this can be used to charge the laptop, what kind of USB-C power adapter I should use, how many Watts?

How can I open up the back to upgrade memory and SSD? I only saw two screws and removing them doesn't look sufficient(I haven't tried though, I could be wrong). Does anyone know where to download the official user manual and drivers specific for this laptop(15z-eh000)? I tried HP website but after I put in the SN and PN nothing came up.

Thanks!

There are screws underneath each of the rubber strips on the bottom that also have to be removed before you can remove the bottom panel.

Oh, can those rubber strips be put back securely after removal? worry about they may not be sticky after that, and I think they are must-have parts at the bottom. Thanks!

Yes, just don't stretch them when you remove and they go back on without any problems.

How much dedicated vram is present??
there is zero dedicated vram since it's iGPU. There is hardware reserve of 651MB out of which 512MB is going toward the iGPU. so it's 8GB - 651MB giving you 7.4GB ram that windows 10 has access to.

Anyone know what HPs response is for those with multiple laptops on the same order, but only received one?
you should call HP and ask for the $50 refund since it didnt come ontime, if you didn't get that email. chk your junk box to see if they sent one.

you need at least a 45W usb-c charger. a regular low power phone charger won't cut it.

There are two screws under each of the rubber feet on top and bottom. The screws are located laterally so you don't have to peel the whole foot off, just enough from each side. Just do it carefully and you won't have any issue resticking it back. Best to do it only once, meaning you should think hard about upgrading both the ram and ssd to the highest capacity that you think you will need for the foreseeable future

When running on battery, hit the bright button above the 4 to make it brighter, and the button above the 3 to make it dimmer.
Go into the power options and make sure it isn't set to dim the display in power saver mode.
I tried everything i could but looks like battery is not capable of providing enough power to the panel. I dont know if everyone is going to notice the dim display but it is there

anyone have a link to the service manual for this model?

Also I know one person was able to put 32 gb of DRAM in the machine, while Crucial site says only 16 gb is allowed. Any chance 64 could go?

Regarding the vram, so for games that need over a gig of vram, what does the igpu do with such a small amount? Does it draw from system ram? Is there a way to adjust the dedicated vram in the BIOS? Not looking to play insane titles, maybe insurgency sandstorm and some gta.

Thanks for the advise!
About the USB-C charge port on the left, I saw from the manual that it can be used to charge cellphones(that is, use the power of the laptop's battery), did you mean the charging is bi-directional? Just want to make sure I won't burn the laptop. Thanks again.

I got a dud as well spending hours on the phone with them, and still not solved. As soon as mine boots it comes up with a battery error, saying that the battery installed is non HP. Basically a bios system message. Smh.

1. Wouldn't any high voltage USB-C (not 5v) do the job? There are a lot of 20W and 30W on Amazon. Doesn't matter to me, because I bought this before they sold out:
https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp...er-adapter

2. Thanks, I came here to ask where the screws were, and if they were under both strips.
Don't understand why there would be screws at the ends of the front strip though, considering that must be quite close to the exposed screws.
