Could anyone tell me if it's really hard to see the backlit keys on this? My laptop has dark keys, so I'm clueless. I was between this and one of the HP deals going on, but the HP seems to have light keys, too.

Likewise. And this is why I went ahead with R7, as I don't want to change laptop in next 3-5 years. And while using it, build quality makes me feel like a premium laptop, that should hold it together. Should I just get one 16GB RAM and make it 24GB or get 16*2? Asking again, can i upgrade the RAM without voiding warranty?
Upgrading ram doesn't void warranty but you'll want 2 matching identical sticks of ram in size, speed, brand, everything so that your ryzen processor can use it properly. Matching dual ram in a ryzen processor allows it to work faster

Awesome Dr! You were able to provide right prescription. Do you think, i should just get another 8GB matching what is already installed? Or spend another $100 to get 16*2? I feel I might get away with another 8 (16 total) for another year.

It is alright. Not bad but if you have used Lenovo thinkpad, you'll find difference but it is definitely better than none.

Depends on what you are doing with it but adding another 8gb ram with the same speed and timing would be a great improvement on a budget.

If you want to spend the money on the 32 gb kit there's a crucial ram kit posted here for $93 that should work but you'll want to check with crucial website to confirm compatibility

Dell doesn't charge cc until it ships. You might want to chat with them to sort out the price difference if you're worried about it

It doesn't show up under my purchases either nor did I even get a confirmation email. Their reps are all based in india or phillipines somewhere and barely understand or have access to orders. Sent an email instead.

It might take a little bit for it to show up in your orders. I placed an order yesterday and it took at least an hour to show up. Today I placed an order with hp and it took at least 2 hours to show up

1. Confirmed that the keyboard is backlit.

2. How bright is the screen?
No official info from Dell.
User questions/answers are conflicting.
Consensus is 220 nits :-(

3. Is the Dell Inspiron 5000 build quality better than the HP Pavilion series?

That's what I thought too, until Amex sent me an email saying that I've successfully used the offer after I ordered the laptop.

Chose this over HP deal as the Dell offers 2 m.2 slots, better for future expansion compared to the HPs single slot.

Also the larger battery in the Dell helped sell it to me.
