1. Confirmed that the keyboard is backlit.

2. How bright is the screen?
No official info from Dell.
User questions/answers are conflicting.
Consensus is 220 nits :-(

3. Is the Dell Inspiron 5000 build quality better than the HP Pavilion series?
Page 17 in following PDF indicates it is either 300 or 220 nits. At this price point it would be the 220.

You can call and complain. Seriously.. there's a hefty annual fee on the platinum right?

I called and they said "no you've got the 10% offer. The $100 offer is for a different card than you have"

I took that to mean basically go take a walk dude, you're not paying an annual fee
FWIW I read it is only offered on vanilla Platinum bit other Platinum such as Schwab or Morgan Stanley

HP Ryzen 7 deal a lot better. This is decent for those who must have a dell.
There is no HP Ryzen 7 deal. Not on their site.

The screen on this is pretty awful. Poor viewing angles and low brightness. If it had an IPS display it might be worth considering but as it is I would pass unless you plan on hooking it up to an external monitor.

The expired HP deal was much better since you could upgrade to an IPS screen.

Perfectly fine for video editing, as long as you're not getting too complicated. 16 GB ram in a matched pair will help substantially. Even an 8th gen i5 with integrated graphics can handle working in Premiere Pro fine for the most part (our remote learners are doing their AV production class using those with 8gb ram when they're used to 8th gen i7 with 16gb ram and geforce cards), and this is a nice step up from that both in graphics and CPU. But if you start dabbling in After Effects or motion graphics elements too heavily, it may fight back some. It's not a multimedia work beast, but it will definitely get the job done.

That's what I thought too, until Amex sent me an email saying that I've successfully used the offer after I ordered the laptop.
Ok, i will email them too then. Which kind of PLAT do you have?

It'll probably have some kind of a trial offer for Office suite but definitely not a full copy. The full version of Office suite is rarely included in PCs. It's almost always an upgrade option.

Yes, the HP is a bit better. I know HP customer service is horrible. How does Dell do/compare? I really don't know if Dell is much better nowadays. It used to be better.

Looking for a business laptop for working at home, zoom meetings, remote desktop, etc. Which would be better, this Dell 5000 with Ryzen 5 4500U or the Lenovo Thinkbook with i5 10210U. How are the camera, microphone and speakers on this Dell?
