Don't forget "Rak you 10" 8 percent cashback and 5 % PayPal cashback with Chase freedom cards. I definitely considered the HP deal going on now which is pretty awesome but chose to keep the Dell (4500U version through the earlier deal on this) over getting the HP. HP is probably a better value per dollar specs wise but better battery life on Dell and not enough performance difference between 4500u and 4700u to make me switch. This also has a fingerprint reader if that's helpful for you and from at least what I've heard better build quality. Correct me if I'm wrong but lots of questions on the HP ram being soldered or not/user upgradable whereas I'm sure this one is upgradable. I'd also give the slight nod to Dell for reliability and customer service. I do have some concern about the 220 nit display on the Dell being bright enough but I've heard it's still good enough and plenty for indoor use which is all I'll be using this for. Just one users take.
This is a deal for folks who value battery life , build quality , don't mind the difference in performance between 4500U vs 4700U , relative ease of upgrading the parts and good return policy with no restocking fees.

Other difference include USB-C charging on the Dell with PD and another slot (?) for storage.

HP is all plastic build . The equivalent Dell is Inspiron 3000 series.

If above things do not matter to you then HP by all means.
Many in that thread were saying the dell is better.

HP Ryzen 7 deal a lot better. This is decent for those who must have a dell.
Yes, the HP is a bit better. I know HP customer service is horrible. How does Dell do/compare? I really don't know if Dell is much better nowadays. It used to be better.

Looking for a business laptop for working at home, zoom meetings, remote desktop, etc. Which would be better, this Dell 5000 with Ryzen 5 4500U or the Lenovo Thinkbook with i5 10210U. How are the camera, microphone and speakers on this Dell?

The screen on this is pretty awful. Poor viewing angles and low brightness. If it had an IPS display it might be worth considering but as it is I would pass unless you plan on hooking it up to an external monitor.

The expired HP deal was much better since you could upgrade to an IPS screen.
Have you had a chance to look at the screen firsthand? Based on other posts, I believe WVA (wide viewing angle) is what Dell calls an IPS screen. Something about the patent to the term "IPS" being owned by LG. Don't know the details but that's the info that I came across.

Low brightness is another issue altogether...I would agree with you that the brightness isn't great, but that's largely a matter of personal preference indoors and degree of use outdoors.

That's what I thought too, until Amex sent me an email saying that I've successfully used the offer after I ordered the laptop.

Somehow, I don't see the offer on my dashboard. I guess this isn't for all the plat members.

Anyone have experience with Dell's laptop return policy and restocking fees?

I placed the order but decided to get the recent HP deal instead because I didn't want to deal with Dell and the missing hardware on this laptop for the second m.2 slot. My order was in production and support says its too late to cancel. The rep said I can just return it within 30 days with free return shipping and no restocking fees -- in fact they don't charge any restocking fees on laptops... only TV's. This is different from posts I see online and the policy stated on their website.

Anyone have a recent experience with this?

I cannot find this info anywhere or maybe it is too obvious... Does this USB-C port output 4k @ 60hz or only 30hz?

Thanks. Do you happen to know whether it is DisplayPort 1.2 or 1.4?

How do I turn off the backlit keyboard? I got this and can't figure out how to turn off the keyboard light.

The matte screen was a must for me, so I couldn't get the HP Ryzen 4700 deal with brightview glossy.
