It takes 5 mins to install Amazon toolbox on a P.C. and flip your fire tablet to a android tablet, with play store. Also removes the ads, for free.
It's not on the list of supported devices. So most likely not, but stranger things have happened.
Would there be any downsides to using this instead of the nest hub max?
I agree you have to install a few programs and you'll have access to Google play store on your fire device.
You can manually install Google play store on the fire device. It is very simple and there are many tutorials online you can follow

Agreed I wouldn't shop with lenovo anymore.. they have given nightmares for warranty repair.. ended up with a bricked tablet last time..
