Real-life drama at the beach ... Rammy's in trouble again ... apparently the wife doesn't like me taking pictures of other women

24,862 1,948 July 22, 2009 at 10:01 AM in Cameras
Amongst the ~200 photos I took last week at the beach, I snapped 3-4 pictures of some hotties that were walking up and down the beach. The wife took great offense to this and I thought it was playful at first but (as women are apt to do) an argument ensued which turned into her giving me the cold, silent treatment for the next 24 hours. She indicated I was "to take pictures of only her & the kids".

Disrespectful? Immature? In hindsight a little, but in her words "I'm married, I'm not dead". I wasn't peeping through a peephole at some ESPN hottie, I was taking a picture of someone strolling a few yards in front of me proudly displaying the goods that God gave her. Just how insecure can she be?

Is this a potential for a double standard? The wife had a massage at a day spa from a "young surfer dude" who was checking her out. Do I come out with the directive "no man can touch you except for me at any time". To take it to another level, shouldn't I be able to get lap dances (I don't btw) without feeling guilty. I agree that's extreme, but give me a break.

I thought things had cooled down the next day or two (makeup OTs) but then out of the blue the wife went through and deleted the pictures on my camera - which simply pissed me off. The following is all that's left. It was intended to be a humorous presentation to the lounge: (a) picture of hotties, (b) picture of wife holding up hand in front of camera, (c) picture of ocean as wife punched hubby in stomach.

I don't know why people find these things so tough to figure out. If one person in a relationship finds a behavior disrespectful then it is off limits--period. Dontknow

That's why you spend so much time dating and learning about the other person before getting into a committed relationship. If there are enough differences then you walk away before it gets too serious.

No, this is bad advice. Don't go crawling back to her in order to justify your behavior and ask for forgiveness. That just completes the cycle of control. You did nothing wrong. Your wife was the one being unreasonable. If anything, she should be the one to apologize.

At this point, just let it drop and be assertive during the next conflict.
Not crawling back and I gave her the cold shoulder as much as she did. At the time, I felt I had done nothing wrong or (grossly) disrespectful ... in fact after I noticed she had deleted the pictures (on the last day). I made a point to say "I'm pissed and will take a picture of whatever I damn well please". Fortunately or not, nothing photo-worthy came by.

This isn't (I don't think so) an issue about control.

The pic was for the Lounge. Without the pic, we wouldn't be having this conversation. OP did the right thing.

Hmm, I need to take notes from this thread. I think it's funny to take similar pics. The look on her face when she downloads them to the computer is just too funny, but she usually just rolls her eyes and calls me a moron or something. They're usually pics of her cleavage though, not other women. I will test out what happens when taking pics of other random women.
SO different from taking pictures of other women. She may call you a moron, but she's flattered by it.

If she's going to divorce him over 3 beach pictures, the marriage is doomed

Your last comment is very telling.. Do you think the man needs to be totally submissive for a marriage to work? I don't. I also don't think the woman should be submissive either.

These "other women" were just people walking on the beach. How is that different than taking pictures of a seagull?
So, there's only a problem in a marriage if she divorces him? How about never letting it get to that point by setting limits ahead of time and both respecting them?

If you don't get how taking pictures of women is different from birds, you're an idiot.

And if I really have to explain to you the difference between a seagull and a woman, then you simply need more help than I can provide.
Frankly I am a little more concerned about the seagulls EEK!

And you are proving my point.. Both spouses need to be reasonable, and not controlling.
Are you stupid or just acting?

Massages is spelled with an "a", I was just making fun of you for making a spelling mistake.

I agree completely.

I hate to say it, but I agree with this comment 100%.
My point was that Rammy should learn from what he did. It made his wife feel uncomfortable and it's up to him to understand why and make sure it doesn't happen again. (And vice versa if she made him uncomfortable.) That's all I meant by Rammy wanting to stay married. I'm not sure what you two are reading into it.

In the perfect world, she'd apologize about this and then I'd be able to swallow my pride and tell her I will be more mindful of taking pictures of other women. We'd then share glorious OTs and move on Big Grin

Like I said before, even the men here thought it was odd and creepy that Rammy was taking these pics. I can only imagine wtf the wife was thinking.
One or two guys here said it was creepy. More on this thread are saying it was wrong.

He was sitting on the beach taking photos of people walking by.

God, some people are acting as if he was composing a homemade "girls gone wild" video.

If he took pictures of 3 random guys on the beach, would that be ok?
How about 3 senior citizens?
Does he need to ask permission for his wife to take a picture, so she's not threatened?

What he did was no different than taking pictures of the ocean or landscape. The wife was very petty to go through and delete his photos. They were his, not hers.

Let's turn it around. Should the man be allowed to forbid her to get messages? Should the man be allowed to go through her stuff and destroy what makes him insecure? I don't think so. If Rammy was a woman poster, and her husband was controlling, I'd give the same advice.
Bash jj or not, but this is the discussion I was going after.
