I just reviewed the Maintenance and Service Guide for this model. It does not have a space for a 2.5" drive.

Also of note, while the product components/description section says that the two memory modules are "not customer accessible or upgradeable," the manual goes on to show how to remove and replace the modules.

Link to Service Guide [hp.com]. Memory module section starts of pg. 35.

Keep in mind HP's customer service is the WORST in the business. I just bought a monitor before black friday but was a black friday deal. I found a better deal so was going to return it unopened. They wanted to charge me a 10 percent restocking fee, after being on hold literally for 1.5 hours waiting to speak to someone. They said even if I refused delivery (this was before it even arrived), they charge a restocking because they could not longer sell the unit, which is out of control crazy. So screw it, I kept it; then it went down by $20 in price today for Cyber Monday. I tried to price match. I used a five percent coupon for the black friday deal, and the same five percent coupon is available now. They are deducting the price i paid after coupon for the regular price now before the coupon, for the price match. It wasn't a very expensive product, so whatever, no problem. But I learned a cheap lesson in my opinion; never, ever, ever buy a product from HP. Maybe buy an HP product from Best Buy or something, but never directly from HP.

Excellent deal, but keep in mind HP's atrocious (15%) restocking fee, which Dell and Lenovo don't charge. Past threads say they charge it even if you send it back unopened.

Agree with others who recommend the 1080p panel, which most importantly is IPS instead of the TN base panel. And pay the $10 for Intel wifi even if you don't care about Wifi 6, because Realtek wifi chips SUCK. Laptops with Realtek wifi always have a ton of complaints about flaky wifi.

In the 2x4 gb ram version, would both slots be upgradable, or 1 soldered, or both soldered?

Keyboard is backlit. +$90 for NVIDIA® GeForce® MX350 (2 GB)

This is a low end one, not for gaming. There isn't a sub $300 laptop with 11th gen i5 and optane.

What is " + 16 GB Intel® Optane™ memory"? Looks to be free upgrade, is it better than the default?

In other HP threads it was mentioned it's not as good as NVMe. Scares me a bit because I saw that only after I had ordered a laptop with an optane drive so I'm really nervous now.

My research into that said optane is helpful when using a normal Hard Drive and not so helpful with an ssd, so I'd stick with the nmve one, which is a little better than a ssd. I think.
