The hot water from your tap sat in a hot water heater and could have collected additional minerals or metals along the way. I've always been told to never drink hot water from a tap.
In some areas overseas they have two faucets on the sink for this reason. The methods for making and storing hot water vary, and in these areas it is only for washing up.

Ideally you shouldn't start off with hot water from what I've heard. Apparently cold water is cleaner
