I'm all for a roughly 50% off deal or whatever it is and I could actually use a sub right now, but I just don't need any more hassle in my life this year ; )...not to save $50, at least. I've been a Prime member and big Amazon fan forever (worked there for a few years even) but this is to much customer pain and confusion.

I have 2 years already on my Microsoft account. I bought this assuming it would give me a code to enter on Microsoft's site like it always does but it didn't. It signed me up for a new account through Amazon directly, without extending my subscription even though it is the same email. Not sure what to do, it looks like I have to chat or call Microsoft and Amazon.

That's what I was afraid of. Good deal but not worth the pain and effort...

Bought first, asked questions later, decided to self cancel within 10 minutes because of the possible negative downstream consequences.

You can't self cancel because they automatically split it into 2 orders (card and subscription).
Took 25 minutes to cancel all with "Digital Specialist" CSR.
Don't buy unless you're certain!

This is weird. So your subscription gets taken over by amazon. I managed to get 2 years and added to my existing subscription. Not sure what will happen when it's up for renewal but I have until June 2023 to figure it out...
Same here. Microsoft's Office page correctly shows the two one-year subscriptions as stacked (exp. Dec 2022). Amazon shows two one-year parallel subscriptions. My guess is Microsoft is correct about the expiration date and will trump Amazon's subscription info. Amazon is correct in showing that two subscriptions were purchased but has a bug in not understanding they're actually sequential as displayed by Microsoft's webpage.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

The level of freak-out about this is just not warranted.

On the Microsoft side (which is the only side that counts), Microsoft just extends your existing sub tied to your MS login. I just did it. Super simple. This is the 2nd year I've done this deal. MS now shows my sub expires in Dec 2021.

On the Amazon side, just turn off auto-renew. It doesn't matter what's listed on the Amazon page. Doesn't mean anything.

Only thing I can think of is ignorance is bliss. I already mentioned it once early on. You are now the second one helping people out. Let's see how many more idiots don't bother to read the comments and just go straight to posting saying this is a bad deal.

No. Digital purchases will go directly to your digital software library. You can buy a holiday card and write the redeemable code on it and mail it to the intended person. Don't forget to cancel renewal from your digital library.

I purchased sub from Amazon and turned off auto renewal. This BF, I purchased sub from Bestbuy. When I tried to stack it, MS wouldn't let me. I chatted with MS support and was told that I have to wait until current sub expires to redeem Bestbuy purchase.

Thanks for the feedback everyone . Was going to jump on this but definitely not worth the hassle. Bought the Newegg deal recently to stack. As much as I like AMZN, I like being in control of where I get and stack my next extension.

Thanks for the assurance.

Just purchased and applied to my existing Microsoft account and it said it extended my existing subscription. Also went to Amazon and turned off auto-renewal. Now I can't see my expiration date on the Microsoft subscription pages, but "Manage" takes me to an Amazon page and this shows the right expiration date! Annoying that Amazon has to be involved, but it worked.

Like other people have said, the issue here isn't being able to extend the current one with Amazon. Rather we can't extend the Amazon sub with a non-Amazon sub until the Amazon sub runs out. I'm having to sit on a Microsoft key until next year because of this. Not worth the hassle buying another.
