I agree, I tried a Kohler engine once, and the savings is not worth the initial excitement of saving money only to build up CHINA, I'm going HONDA from now on. They last 20+ years and these others copies are just Chinese junk, and are no fun to use, work on, or have pride in.
Haha. The problem with Kohler motors (and Briggs for that matter) isn't the Chinese manufacturing, it's the stubborn American design. They're ok, but a Honda is so much more reliable.
FWIW, I have a Simpson unit with a Kohler engine and it has been fantastic, starts easily and always first try.

Ahh I didn't know Kohler was an American design... I thought it was a copy of a Yamaha or Honda motor? But what do I know.
