There's a problem with the Epic games launcher still running in the background after you quit a game causing RYZEN CPU to run even hotter as reported by numerous gaming sites over the past few days aka NEW.

dsogaming, tweaktown, thefpsreview, bluesnews, videocardz, etc.

one example:
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/ep...ntel-cpus/

"Currently there is no fix for this issue, but there is one workaround. You can try to link Epic Games Launcher to the GOG Galaxy client, which has a built-in feature to automatically close 'original' launchers after the game is shut down, as pointed out by Videocardz."

It's not only Epic launcher but the most of game launchers like Steam and apps/program launchers like Zoom do run background unless you manually kill it or change its settings.
So it's not fair statement Epic launcher running background causes CPU overheating.
I've been using Epic launcher for many years and haven't observed any issues.
You will be surprised how many apps/ programs are running background without you knowing it.

It's been in the news the last couple of days about the Epic launcher like I said and reported as a *new* issue.

It's been causing overheating issues for some setups as reported over the last few days by a bunch of different websites:

dsogaming, tweaktown, thefpsreview, bluesnews, videocardz, etc.

"Other game clients like GOG or STEAM do not seem to exhibit this same behavior, since these CPU temperature and usage spikes are not usually typical of game launchers." Nick @ dsogaming

Yep, I noticed idle temps dropped 6C after closing EGS. Once you open it and let it idle, it's doing something causing 4-6% cpu utilization just minimized doing nothing.

Uninstalled this POS. It's partially owned by Tencent and now I read it's sending data to 24 different IP addresses. Good lord, no wonder the games are "free" when you're being data mined.

How's night in the woods? Is the quirky animation supposed to carry the weight or does it have actually good gameplay/story?

I won't run any launchers on my main work computer, but that's no longer setup to be the primary gaming computer anyways, the requirements diverged quite a while ago. So whatever's running on the game PC is fine - it's effectively a console I can modify. Also - not much to mine on this one, as it is restricted in access.

"One of my favorite video games. While there isn't much to the game in terms of core gameplay (jump on platforms and explore the town- easy enough) the story, dialogue, and rich lore of Possum Springs will keep the player engaged. Night In The Woods takes a look at serious topics such as mental illness, the stages of early adulthood, the power of nostalgia, and the emptiness we all sometimes feel while also maintaining a wonderful and real sense of humor throughout. Some of us either know someone like Mae, or possibly relate to her, ourselves. Also, the mini games throughout are all pretty fun, particularly the game-within-a-game "Demon Tower," (a hack and slash style dungeon crawler) and playing the bass which involves rhythmically pressing buttons, reminiscent of Guitar Hero. There hasn't been a game that I've enjoyed or related to so much in a long time, I'd definitely recommend it. Also, the soundtrack is amazing, and I know I mentioned the dialogue already- but, wow, it's well written. The characters all come off as pretty relatable and realistic, considering they're all 2D cartoon animals. That's all I've got. Gregg rulz ok." - Gamer review

I'm also getting tired of the POS EPIC games launcher. Every time I fire it up or download a game my CPU fans fire up like a nuclear power plant. Makes no sense. I stopped it from launching at startup.

I have it on Switch and played it at night to just relax and winddown. Don't expect any type of exciting action which is actually what I want. The story does carry it, and a few mini games within. Nice soundtrack and the simple things, like jumping on a mailbox or powerline is also enjoyable.
