I install fiber optic modems and routers/mesh systems. I can't tell you how often I see two of the three or more nodes placed in the dead spots. 1 node is hardwired to the RG (modem). The others are usually not hardwired. They can not broadcast any more bandwidth/speed than what they receive from the main node.
Too spread out is no good.
Conversely, placing nodes too close to one another will cause wifi saturation (confusing your device). Too close is no good.
The porridge needs to be just right.
Unplug all but the main node/router. Connect your newest cell phone to wifi. Very slowly walk away from the main node until you lose 1 bar of signal (wifi icon typically looks like a pizza slice, not the ascending bar icon for cellular signal). Now, back up 8-10 ft closer to the main node. Place your second node here. Don't power it up yet. We only want to see the broadcast field from the main node. Repeat this process in another direction for your third node and power them both up. You should now have a well functioning mesh system.
I think the only difference is the shorter 90-day warranty and the box it comes in. I've used M5 and M9 Plus refurbs from B&H bought a few months back, and they did have the HomeCare function.

One other thing that I do is to use safer DNS servers like 9.9.9.9 (Quad9) and OpenDNS's Family filter 208.67.222.123 / 208.67.220.123. It is slightly obscure how to do that in these devices, though. You open the app, go to the "More" button in the lower right, Advanced, IPv4 Dynamic IP, tap on the Internet Connection Type Dynamic IP, turn off the "Obtain DNS Automatically" and give it 9.9.9.9 and 208.67.222.123 That keeps known malicious site names from being able to be resolved, as well as porn sites.
Huh? I already own three and they do work like a daisy chain. They're all the same unit except one is connected directly to your internet connection. My furthest unit can't reach the "main" unit so it daisy chains to the middle one.

The Q&A mentions this refurb does not come with the free lifetime TP-Link HomeCare subscription.

I already have 3 of these. Is it stupid to buy 3 more so I'll have 1 in every room?
3 now: Garage, 1 bedroom, living room
3 more: 2 other bedrooms, kitchen

I guess if I have dead spots?

So yes and no to too many WiFi points.
If you have really poor coverage in one area then you should add one more…

But if you're getting 75/10 in one room and 60/8 in another room adding another would be detrimental.

But if you're getting 75/10 in one room and 7/1 in another then definitely add another for that room.

Thanks for the info. Only thing i didn't really understand is I don't know what 75/10 means.

I get up to 600Mbps U/D with my fiber connection so I get 600/600? Lol

Edit: oh I see. If my dead spot is 7/1 while the rest of my house is 600/600, then one extra M9 may be beneficial

Upload/Download speeds. It varies by what plan you currently have with your internet provider. Best to download an app on your phone(Speedtest) that can calculate the speed and test throughout your house. Go next to your primary router first and that should be the fastest speed.

I currently have 6 of the Deco M5's. Four in the ~2500 sq. ft. house, one in the garage and one in a workshop. All wired with Ethernet backhaul. I can honestly say that I've never had an issue with them, but I'll get this to use an M9 as the main pod.

I've broken up a third set of 3 to give one or two to other family members & friends.
