Got rejected, have a 780ish credit score. Maybe too many credit card sign ups recently
From what I could find online regarding BofA these are their restrictions for credit cards:

- You can only get approved for 2 new cards in a 30-day period
- You can only get approved for 3 new cards in a 12-month period
- You can only get approved for 4 new cards in a 24-month period

Apparently it only looks at BofA cards. Where as the Chase 5/24 rule looks at any credit card issued to you, regardless of which company issued it to you.

Edit: Adding the 7/12 and 3/12 rules for BofA higher up to this comment.

"7/12 and 3/12 rule"

"According to this rule, customers with a BofA deposit account will not be approved for new cards if they've opened seven cards (across all issuers) in the last 12 months, while customers without a BoA deposit account will be rejected if they've opened three or more cards in the last 12 months."

Also rejected - 820 credit score and i have no BoA credit cards (never have). They did hit me with a hard credit check though. :|

Denied. Probably because of 48/24.
Me too, even have 2 BofA Master cards. Try Wells Fargo Visa Active Cash Card. Got approved.

3% category vs 1.5% everything

Discover & Freedom have 5% categories. Everything else gets taken care of by BoA's 3% category on online purchases. Certain cards also have 5% on office supplies. For B&M, there is Citi 2% Doublecash card. Personally I don't see any reason for it and you're just intentionally gimping yourself for no reason just to get that $200 offer. Ultimately, if you travel, Chase ultimate rewards points trump everything.

Every card has 1% cashback. The additional 0.5% on $100,000 purchases amounts to ........... $500.

I switched because I already have two of these cards (one Visa, the other a Mastercard) and I'm not using either one, and they're probably close to closing both accounts for inactivity anyway. For every 3% category offered on there (aside from the online purchases one), I have other cards that get me 4% or 5% anyway. I'll probably be done with this card once I hit my $1000 in purchases other than to do a small purchase every now and then to keep the credit line alive.

The one they're offering to change over originally didn't even have any rewards at all. It was one of my first credit cards ever from 15 years ago that I got just to "have credit" and they changed it over to the current one about 2 or 3 years ago.

Even if you have NO status with BOA, it's effectively 11.5% cash back on the first $1000 spent

Then you just throw the card in a drawer and never use it again since there's no fee or anything.. Even better, no hard pull required.

If you DO have Plat Honors status, then it's even better, since the signup is effectively 12.625% on the first $1000 spent... AND it's 2.625% on everything after that.... easily beating not only things like Citi Doublecash, but even the Alliant 2.5% card.

If I fill up my car with gas category, then switch within the hour to online shopping, make a purchase. Will I get 3x points for both? Has anyone tried switching while the previous item is in pending?

Generally a charge has to post to get bonus points, but YMMV.

Also you can only change once a month.

I believe you can only change the category every three months or so. Might be monthly.

If you use CashApp, dont use a BoA credit card on it. They've locked our card for "suspected fraud" several times since we received it in October, and dealing with their customer service is horrible. Transfers to wrong departments, agents lack training and have an attitude, etc. I even had my card locked when calling customer service to reset my online password, because I could not verify my credentials (previous address, current vehicle registered to me, etc), which turned out to be a problem with LexisNexis and not BoA and has been fixed since then. If you get transferred to the department that handles unemployment payments, hang up and try again. Those people do not know how to transfer you back to the correct department, and you'll end up wasting a lot of time.

It's a great card. Their new card is 2.6% on everything

When you change the category, the change is effective at 12:01am on that day. So in your example, if you fill up with gas and then change the category to online shopping on that day after you make the gas purchase, you will not get 3% for the gas purchase. Plus, you would have to wait 2-3 days for the gas purchase to post anyway.
