Received the phone, activated it via Fi app and ported in a burner pre-paid number I bought last week, and now I have removed the Fi SIM and inserted my main carrier SIM. Gonna throw the Fi SIM in a drawer and never insert it into any phone again

Will report back if I get charged $600.

You can. It is able to be uninstalled.

I am not sure what the implications on the promotion would be though.

I am really struggling with what I should do here.
  • I can risk doing what smallpenny is doing, pull the sim and insert my real sim
  • I could put the phone in a box for 90 days and not enjoy it until April
  • I could return it
I probably would have ported my real number in and just used the phone on Fi for 90 days if that was an option for me but Fi service is terrible at my house.

*sigh*

I don't like any of my choices right now. Also, before someone asks, yes, I knew all this going in. Big Grin

After the 90-day period is over, do you know how we can cancel Google Fi service? We wait until the 91st day and call CS to cancel? If so, are we going to be charged another month, i.e., the 4th month, of service?
I would verify on the billing screen that the promo shows the last task (keep device active on Fi for 90 days) is checked off before cancelling. You will be prorated the days that you don't use in that billing month.

Is it not possible to port Google voice number over? I am looking at numberbarn as well to just purchase a number to port.

I think Fi has wifi calling - which means you won't have to have actual network signal to make/receive.calls and texts.

You can also forward your Ting calls to your Fi number.

Just got the phone today and attempted to port my rarely used other GV number and seemed to work but kept getting snagged on something and eventually asked me to contact GFi for further assistance got a hold of Abdul and he reimbursed my $3 that I spent to unlock my GV number. I had tried to port it over right after unlocking it and it caused some problem. He told to try again in 6 hours. So, I have 28 days to git 'er done. I'll let yall know if it when through.

"Ideally we need to wait for couple of hours after unlocking the number, as you have tried immediately the number was not unlocked.
Abdul · 5:58 PM"

Also, the sim card that was already in the phone was not readable I reinserted it and rebooted to no avail. Thankfully I requested a free SIM card when I ordered the phone and that SIM card worked.

You left out using the new phone at home for 90 days on WiFi, then grabbing your old phone when you go out somewhere.

Not sure how similar your situation is to mine, but I hardly go out nowadays anyway. Mostly just to run to Costco or the grocery store, then I come home. My phone is really just on me in case I need to make/receive a call, which is rare, and not something for which the S20 is noticeably different than my old phone.

Agree. Once you verify on the billing screen, under Account->Your Plan, there's a "Leave Google Fi".

The packaging is sealed but it does have the Fi sim installed, as well as a small Fi leaflet asking to install Fi app, which means it can be uninstalled (unlike the Moto G phones). I am still setting it up and will confirm
later on the uninstallation.
I can confirm that it is possible to uninstall the Fi app. I don't know if that has any impact on the promotion though.

For anyone who has a S20/S20+/S20 Ultra, have a question: So I'm coming from S10, which has a full screen protector on it already. The S20 seems to have a screen protector, but mine has a hole for the fingerprint scanner, and there's a tab to remove it. So it's not a screen protector?

Just seeing if anyone's removed it and there's another screen protector underneath?

Thanks,
