Wow great deal. You could use the S20 as a stepping stone to the S21 by trading it in next year. You may even get more than $400 trade in credit.

Not necessarily. There's a lot of uncertainty around whether you can use another SIM in the Fi phone once the Fi SIM and service is activated, so I take it upon myself to see what happens, and I've yet to break the promo. I'll be the guinea pig and report back and keep others informed. If me using another SIM in the Fi phone breaks the promo, then that's $600 on me, that I can hopefully help others save. And so far, the promo discount is still good for me. And as of now, I have 78 days left.

Putting your Fi sim in another phone is fine, don't let the tinfoil brigade scare you. As long as the Fi service is active, that's all they care about.

It's hilarious how paranoid some people are, frantically hiding their Fi sim in their sock drawer or under a rock in the backyard - as if someone at Google is sitting there monitoring their every move. Get a grip.
Stop giving out false info. It's already confirm that using the sim in another phone will void the promo.

Usually google fi will notify you are breaking the terms & if you switch back the sim within 24 hours then you are okay.

Sometimes they flat out void the promo for using the sim in another phone.

Did you uninstall the fi app or do you still have it installed?

Who is your other carrier that you are using with your Fi phone?

My S20 finally got delivered today. I verified that the IMEI matched the one listed on the order page before activating. I think I read on reddit where Google sent a different phone to a customer and the system never registered the phone tied to the promo as being activated.

I no longer have the Fi app installed.

I installed it when I got the phone and Fi SIM, and used the app the port in a burner number and activate service. I then installed all the system updates (about 4-5), then once there were no more updates, I did a factory reset, which also removes the Fi app. I have not downloaded it since.

Thanks for posting all the tips folks.

Just ordered mine this morning.

Icing on the cake would be if Google Fi phone purchase will qualify for their quarterly 5%.

I do think the non fi sim's carrier has something to do whether google can know we swapped out the fi sim. Based on what another poster posted before, google uses T Mobile's network, so if the other sim is from t mobile they might be able to know. But if like yours, and mine being from att, then google might not be able to know at all. Yes they can ping the phone but they can't just void the promo if the phone is not responding. Those posts on reddit that said their promo got voided were also t mobile sims. That's my guess.

Not sure. For those who lost their promo, I'm not sure if they're being entirely transparent, like did they use another SIM in the Fi phone, while unintentionally using the Fi SIM in another phone and only revealing the former? I am thinking for people who lost their promo, it's that they swapped SIMs, and unknowingly inserted the Fi SIM into another phone since they may not have wanted an actively working SIM just sitting around unused.

My Fi SIM has not seen the light of day since I removed it. It came inserted in the phone already so I activated via the Fi app, then the rest was history. If I do break the promo, I'll report back. So far, I'm in the clear.

Thank you all for the information. I pulled a trigger on S20. I was in dilemma between S20 and S21. Read lots of opinions about how S21 could be a marginally downgrade. I didn't had a phone to trade in and I didn't want to get in the contract (Xfinity) or bill credits (Google Fi, S21) for 2 years. I don't mind for 3 months of Google Fi service. Might move to a cheaper service later.

Ordered yesterday and the phone shipped out today. That was quick. Thanks, OP. I am excited as this should be the biggest performance upgrade over MotoG5. Big Grin

Google could always know IMEI, SIM ICCID and provider as long as your _android_ phone is connected to the internet. What information is allowed and actually used and exchanged between various departments within google is another question.

Good luck Leo' I was just a moment away from trading in my new s20 for the s21 ultra but the idea of getting charged the full price plus the Ultra is crazy and I'm a cheap mofo so the pain would be Real!

GFI chat said they added the referral so thanks for the help. They said it would show up the pay period as well.

Received the phone yesterday and it is incredibly faster than my s9. Promo is tracking correctly as well. Happy with the purchase. BTW did they advertise about adding screen protector to the phone? It looks like there is one on it but it's almost invisible
