I got this same deal about a year and a half ago. It's been a good buy for my first venture into pellet grills and smoking. A few takeaways from my experience:
-I never open the sear plate, even when grilling steaks or chicken. For me it isn't worth the trouble and doesn't add anything flavor-wise. The grill will get plenty hot enough with the sear plate closed.
-When smoking, the temps are very uneven throughout the grill. Mine also consistently cooks about 15-20 degrees hotter than the target temp. I usually have to push whatever I'm smoking to the far left as it is the coolest part of the grill and also the location of the ambient temp probe. It gets HOT above the sear plate. The lack of a diffuser like with a traditional pellet grill becomes very evident when smoking.
-Never any issues with the feeder or fire pot. Cleanup is fairly easy. I just put on gloves and clean the ash out of the fire pot by hand because I don't have a vacuum with a small enough nozzle.
All things considered, I don't regret buying the Austin XL, but it has definitely left me wanting more. $397 is a good deal especially for your first pellet grill. It gets the job done, you just have to learn to work with it.

I can echo this statement - far left cooks a lot lower than the far right where the stack is but I pretty much expected this. I've had mine 2+ years now. I clean the day after each time I smoke with it - I have a weber for the hot and fast - don't use this to grill. Cleaning is simple with a shop vac and a metal and plastic putty knife. Plastic for the painted parts, metal to scrape the steel plate. Takes about 10-15 min max once you get the hang of it. Not required to clean after each cook, that's just me. I paid $250 at walmart at the end of the season. Only once did I have an issue with the auger clogging (at 2am for a brisket cook of course). That was after a few very rainy / humid days where the hopper must've gotten exposed to some moisture and the pellets swell up. Simple fix - empty the hopper and cleared out where the auger starts. I now try to gauge the pellets so that the hopper is essentially empty after each cook to avoid this from happening again. If you use it more than 1x a week, I wouldn't worry about this at all. Overall, pretty pleased with this cooker - it's been a life saver for socially distanced get togethers on the patio during football season. If on the fence, get one , you won't be disappointed.

These were down to $224 last fall. I went to a Walmart that said they had them in stock and I could not find one but I found the pit boss 700 for $165. That does everything I need. They were $397 all last fall before they went on clearance. I watched the price from August to late October when they dropped to $224.

I got this grill for $179 2 years ago at Walmart. It was a return. Someone used it for 1 cook and returned it lol. The manager sold it to me super cheap. Great grill!

In store may be cheaper. YMMV Brickseek shows some as low as $200 Oos and $250 in stock near me.

Decent price here. You can definitely catch these a bit lower, but if you've been waiting for a pellet grill this is a good deal. I stumbled across this for $220 on managers special (pre-assembled floor model). I would confidently pay $400 for this grill. On YouTube there are a few great and easy mods for this grill to address some of the concerns folks here have been posting about. I paid $650 for the Oklahoma Joe Rider DLX last Christmas and have already got rid of the grill, it was a miserable experience. The Pitboss has yet to give me trouble, I clean it after about 5-7 uses with a shop vac and it's been spinning like a top

Good deal here. Pit Bosses are great grills for people looking to get into pellet grills without breaking the bank. Sure these have been cheaper on clearance deals in the past few years, but even at $400 this is a great option.
