Read this whole thread and still confused about gsm capability. After a year of cdma Tracfone service and the phone is unlocked by Tracfone, would you be able to use a Cricket sim or any other gsm mvno sim?

Sure, once it's unlocked. Phone has bands for gsm, it just comes with a Verizon sim. I tried mine with an active TF AT&T sim, had no issues.

FWIW, I transferred my existing Tracfone service from a Moto G5Plus (AT&T/GSM) to this phone (Moto G Power from HSN) and have subsequently encountered issues relative to calling (both inbound and outbound). (Verizon coverage isn't an issue in this area -- I receive "full" signal strength, and LTE is enabled.) Today I chatted with Tracfone support to request a transfer back to AT&T service (I have AT&T SIM cards ready to be used) and was told it couldn't be done. Apparently Tracfone's system wouldn't accept the AT&T SIM card numbers despite the phone's GSM radio capabilities. I assume, then, that the phone is not just locked to Tracfone, but more specifically locked to Verizon CDMA service despite the phone's GSM capabilities

The calling issue has been escalated to Verizon. I was issued a ticket number for follow-up if the issue isn't resolved in 72 hours.

I recommend trying another rep, don't think that info is correct.
I know you can switch active line (keeping current number) from Verizon to AT&T sim (I've done it when I needed to return a defective phone) - BUT since the included TF plan is linked to the Verizon sim & Imei of phone it probably will make unlocking a problem.
Phone is not locked to Verizon, just to Tracfone. My active TF AT&T sim works as expected in any Motorola Tracfone, including this one. All I do is put sim in phone & reboot.

I have a Google Fi Moto X4 that has been having apps crash repeatedly, even after I reset the phone. Would this be a good replacement?

Maybe it is one of the apps that is causing crashes. Zxing app has been causing trouble for many

I don't have that particular app, I just know the phone worked flawlessly until about 6 months ago, then suddenly every app would crash over and over until you restarted the phone and waited for it to happen again. The security updates seemed to fix it for a month or so, but then it would start happening again.

Using the service every so often for the 365 days should be good to get an unlocked code?

Will this phone be good on T-Mobile's network?

Had to call customer service to port over from Google FI because the website listed many carriers except Google FI. The customer service experience was good. Have been using it for a few days. Great phone and battery. However, just found out sending MMS in a group chat to 4 people deducted my text balance by 16. Called them and they will put a trace on my account and will email me in 24 hrs so I'm curious what they will find.

I bought the Moto E5 bundle in Sept and activated it yesterday.

Every 6 months (except SafeLink) per the Terms and Conditions [tracfone.com]

Tracfone reserves the right to deactivate any phone for which there is no voice, text or data usage for a period of six (6) consecutive months for Smartphones and twelve (12) consecutive months for other phones. If your Service is deactivated, your Service can be reactivated by purchasing and adding an Airtime Card. Once reactivated, your phone may be assigned a new phone number. Airtime which remained unused at the time of deactivation will still be available if Service is reactivated within sixty (60) days from the deactivation date, otherwise any unused airtime will be lost.
