Amcrest cam question..... is this MAC fishy?

I have several ip cams, my most recent batch is Amcrest and I am happy with them.

We got a new dog and I saw an ASH21 can in HD so I thought I would grab it as a dog cam. realize that these cams are designed to be more consumerish, that is setup is all done via an app and there is no native web server BUT it does support RTSP so word is it works with NVR like Blue Iris and the like.

OK. So I set it up in the app, video works great. Then I login to my router to check the IP of the cam (DHCP) and can't find the IP that matches what the Amcrest app tells me. Huh. then I think..... ok I'll look for the MAC in the current clients list. Can't find that either.

So then I open the Amcrest ipconfig tool, and it pulls up a different IP than what the cam software tells me. But even stranger, it pulls up a different MAC than the app AND what is printed on the sticker on the bottom of the cam.

I also can't get RTSP to work, but that could be a different issue. I am wondering if the different MAC could mean the unit was purchased and returned?

I have several Amcrest cameras, one thing it took me a while to figure out was that some of the cameras have two MAC addresses, one for wired and one for wireless. And if you connect a camera wirelessly initially and then switch to wired, it will continue to maintain the wireless connection as well (at least that's what happened with me and I was able to replicate the issue on a second camera).

Not sure if that will help you or not but it's something that I wrestled with for a while as I'm always looking at the IP and MAC addresses of things connected to my network.

Good chance that it the answer each adapter has a unique address so wired and wireless means 2 and depending on your lease it can still show up.

I have even had phantom devices respond to pings at work.

So how does the app display the wrong IP? I guess it might be an error, but the wired connection has never been plugged in.

I still can't get anything but the app to talk to it. On that note where does RTSP code go in TinyCam?

I don't think you don't see this too often with cameras that are branded amcrest, but sometimes cameras intended for the Chinese market are sold with hacked / patched firmware. These cameras are cheap and low quality and have compatibility problems with NVRs. Such a firmware modification can change the MAC address. I believe ending up with multiple cameras with the same MAC address isn't unheard of (obviously causes problems).

Some of the lower cost amcrest / dahua products that are intended for certain market segments may not have an rtsp stream or web interface at all.
