My wife used to work for Newell in procurement...cost of manufacturing of these are less than $5. This entire for profit economy (capitalism) is idiotic. I can't even imagine how further into the future we would be if we removed the worst barrier(profit/money) to innovation. 1/3 of our time is wasted counting, hoarding, saving, making, slaving for money worst idea that man has ever come up with.

I don't think you understand what fuels innovation.

and how much do you think shipping costs? cost of Amazon selling fees? Cost to store? cost to ship to Amazon? Cost in case a customer returns it? Return rate generally hovers at 5-10% of online sales. I promise you if you were to take this to UPS, shipping fees alone will be well over 50 dollars

What does it say when you buy a container to put trash in?

Making the steel mold for this large piece isn't cheap, nor it's the machinery that injects the plastics into that mold.

There's also employee unemployment insurance and healthcare insurance that the manufacturer pays.

These are just some of the Overhead that gets paid for these trash cans to be made.

Rolling trash cans with lids make life easier. My opinion is based on my situation. I have to move my can 140 feet to the curb. Yes they are expensive but a heavy duty one like I bought has been working well for 10 years now. Tip: in high winds attach it to the mailbox with a ratchet strap or bungee cord.

You can buy a dolly for most industrial Rubbermaid trash cans, so if the dolly is cheap then you get the slick version of a rolling trashcan.
